  • January Release - Released January 12th 2025

    Administrative

    Visibility of Tenant Configurations

This release introduces a new administrator dashboard that enhances visibility into tenant configurations. It provides a curated view of tenant settings, including descriptions, default values, and tenant-specific values, addressing the previous lack of insight into on-demand offerings. This update improves transparency by allowing customers to easily view their configurations and discover configurations that are available but not yet in use.

The first version of the overview will be available starting January 20th. The dashboard will be available as an on demand feature, please contact Service Desk to activate.

For more information, refer to our help documentation.

    Org Units (Closed Beta)

We are excited to announce the closed beta of enhanced Org Unit management, now available to select customers. Administrators can now create and modify Org Units, manage user assignments, and link assessments and content directly, without needing Inspera’s service desk support. This feature is available to the "Adminstrator" role, with a new standard user role coming soon. Interested customers can contact their Account Manager for participation in closed beta.

    Administrators can now:

    • Create and manage your organization structure.
    • Search Org Units by name or ID.
    • Access Org Unit IDs for updates using API.
    • Link users and resources to Org Units.
    • View users and resources assigned to each Org Unit.
    • Access detailed resource lists linked to Org Units.
    • Edit Org Unit details like Name and External ID.
    • Hide Org Units to park for audit or block further resource assignments.

The new org units interface (closed beta) will be available as an on demand feature, please contact Service Desk to activate.

For more information, refer to our help documentation.

    Deliver

    Rebranding - Inspera Resilience Proctoring

Next month we will share details about a new suite of Inspera proctoring products, including Inspera Live Proctoring.

In preparation, this month we have officially changed the name of our existing remote proctoring product to Inspera Resilience Proctoring. You will see this new name reflected in the test setup settings, the proctoring admin header (see below), and Help Center articles. No candidate-facing changes to the product will be made as part of this rebranding.

If you use Inspera Resilience Proctoring, please consider any updates you may need to make to your internal documentation to incorporate this new product name.

Read more to find out more about these proctoring solutions.

    Grade (Marking 2.0)

    Bulk Upload of Explanations

We’re excited to introduce an expansion of Inspera's current offline capabilities, empowering graders to not only grade and mark, but also provide explanations to candidates offline.

Graders can now download either of two Excel files—“Marks and Explanations as Excel” or “Grades and Explanations as Excel”- both of which include a new "Explanations" column. These files, which previously supported updating marks and grades (existing on demand functionality), now also allow the inclusion of explanations. Once modified, the files can be uploaded back into Inspera, where marks or grades, and explanations are automatically synchronized according to predefined rules. Users are shown success notifications, error alerts, and links to documentation for troubleshooting.

This update enhances the existing on-demand functionality for updating Marks and Grades using Excel. If the existing functionality is already available to you, the explanations will automatically be included as well with this release. If the functionality is not yet activated for your account, please contact the service desk to enable this feature.

For more details, please refer to help documentation.

Marks by section display in UI

The section header of the candidate performance data table now has an improved format to display:

    • The number of questions per section
    • Marks awarded by section ("Marks: {awarded marks} out of {max marks by section}")

Both planner and grader user roles can find this data table in the Candidate in Focus workspace  and the Results view of the Grading overview workspace (Results view option requires activation). The updated section header helps provide a clearer overview of the section of an assessment.

    1. Candidate in focus workspace

    2. Results view of Grading overview workspace

    Inspera Integrity Browser

Inspera Integrity Browser 1.16.6  for MacOS 15

Inspera Integrity Browser is now supported on the latest macOS 15, providing users with enhanced compatibility and a more seamless experience for secure assessments.

    Inspera Originality

Bulk Upload Functionality - Subjects, Educators, Students

Administrators in Inspera Originality can now easily add units in bulk through a streamlined process. This is made possible by the bulk upload functionality, which enables administrators to upload subjects, educators, and students in bulk.

Each unit features a dedicated interface for bulk uploads, allowing administrators to upload subjects, educators, and students separately, with each category using its own individual Excel file upload to facilitate the bulk upload.

Administrators can also manage bulk uploads before finalizing the registration of units, enabling them to edit each entry in the bulk upload as necessary. This ensures that potential errors in the Excel file are addressed before proceeding with the bulk registration of units.

Thresholds for Exact Match, Altered Text, and Contextual Similarity

In addition to the Contextual Similarity threshold, Inspera Originality now includes configurable thresholds for Exact Match and Possibly Altered Text classifications. This enhancement offers greater flexibility, enabling institutions to tailor the originality-checking process further. Furthermore, the threshold configuration has been updated with a redesigned interface featuring sliders, providing an improved and more intuitive user experience.

Thresholds define the percentage at which a sentence is considered as an Exact Match, Possibly Altered, or Contextually similar.

  • February Release - Released February 4th, 2025

    Heads up

End of Support for Safe Exam Browser Version 3.2.5

Inspera will officially remove support for Safe Exam Browser version 3.2.5 beginning March 2025. SEB 3.3.3 contains important security fixes and therefore replaces all older versions including SEB 3.2.5 which should no longer be used.

End of Life for Learning Analytics for Questions and Question Sets

Starting March 2025, we will discontinue support for the Learning Analytics for Questions and Question Sets in Inspera Assessment. This Beta capability will be deprecated in place of the psychometrics dashboard, which will become the primary source for psychometrics data and analytics, with ongoing efforts to introduce new analytics features in future releases.

End of Support for Chromebook lock-down application

Google is phasing out Chrome Kiosk Apps. Therefore, starting with the May release, Inspera is ending support for the Chromebook application for lock-down. No new development is planned for the Chromebook application from March and support will no longer be available from Inspera after May. Begin migrating to the Chromebook progressive web application now.

    Administrative

Visibility of Tenant Configurations for Customers

    Available for: Tenant Administrator

In January 2025, we introduced the new Tenant configuration dashboard to enhance visibility into tenant configurations. With the February release, we are adding support for downloading tenant configurations in Excel format. The update also includes changes to field descriptions and column names.

Additionally, this release introduces a dedicated user role, the Tenant Administrator, to provide more granular access control for this feature. In the initial version, users with both the Extended Access and Administrator roles were granted access. However, with the introduction of the new role, all users will lose access to the dashboard immediately after the release. You must assign the new Tenant Administrator role to the relevant users to reinstate access.

The dashboard will be available by default for all customers after the February release.

Read more about this on our Help center

    Technical Details

    • Impact: Visibility into tenant configurations
    • Availability: Available for all users with the Tenant Administrator role. Does not require activation. The users who were earlier accessing it through a combination of Extended Access and Administrator roles will now have to be given the Tenant Administrator role, to be able to access this list.

    Organizational Units

    Available for: Org Unit Administrator

We are excited to announce the general availability of enhanced Org Unit management. “Org Unit Admin” (new role) can now manage creating and modifying Org Units from a unified interface, without Inspera’s service desk support. They can assign users to org units in bulk. They can view the users, assessments, and content items linked to the respective org units.

Org Unit Admins can now access the unified interface for org unit management, and

    • Create and manage your organizational structure.
    • Search Org Units by name or ID.
    • Access Org Unit IDs to make modifications using API.
    • Assign users to Org Units in Bulk.
    • View the list of users, assessments, and content assigned to each Org Unit.
    • Modify Org Unit details such as the Name and External ID.
    • Hide Org Units to park for audit or block further assignment of users, assessments, or content.

The CSV upload of users mapped to org units is available in the ”User administration” section, and is accessible only by users with the “Administrator” role.

For more information, refer to our help documentation.

    Technical Details

    • Impact: Existing org units, users, content, and assessments will remain unaffected and continue to appear in the interface.
    • Availability: The new org units interface will be available as an on-demand feature, please contact the Service Desk to activate it.

    Proctoring

Inspera Recorded, Record & Review, and Live Proctoring

We are excited to announce the release of a new suite of proctoring products, offering:

    • Full Proctoring Service: Utilise Inspera's professional proctors or monitor the tests using your own proctors

The proctoring solutions seamlessly integrate with Inspera Assessment, allowing candidates to access their tests the usual way while enabling discreet proctoring in the background.

    Technical Details

    • Impact: This proctoring suite uses its own Secure Browser and is not compatible with Inspera Integrity Browser. See the Help Centerf0000; background-color: #f8fafc;" for more information. It is also a separate product from Inspera Resilience Proctoring. To see an overview of all our proctoring solutions visit our website.
    • Availability: Inspera Recorded, Record & Review, and Live Proctoring require activation. If you would like to find out more, please ask your Inspera account manager.

Progressive Web Application for Chromebook Assessments

Google is phasing out Chrome Kiosk Apps. Therefore, starting with the March release, Inspera is ending support for the Chromebook application for lock-down. Migrate to the progressive web application (PWA) now. The PWA ensures that users can continue using Inspera Assessment on their Chromebooks seamlessly.

This new PWA is designed to replicate the original application's lockdown environment, with the following exceptions:

    • If any embedded links in a question are blocked by the Content Security Policy (CSP), test takers will not be able to access them in the player.
    • Exiting the PWA application when the candidate is offline will require a hard exit.
    • If multiple candidates log in using Google SSO on one Chromebook (like in incenter tests), the session is not forgotten when a candidate Exits the PWA.

    Admins must also:

    • Add an extension in the Google Admin console once to allow candidates to Exit the PWA application when they are online.
    • Provide additional support to ensure the audio recording questions function properly.

    Technical Details

    • Impact: Customers can continue their assessments on Chromebook, even though Google will stop supporting its native application in the future.
    • Availability: This is relevant to all customers who use or plan to use  Chromebooks to deliver tests. The extensions and the installation link for the PWA will be available in the documentation in the March release.

    Psychometrics Dashboard

    • STATUS: General
    • PROCESS FOR ACTIVATION: Contact Service Desk

This dashboard was developed to give Inspera customers a clearer, data-driven perspective on the psychometric KPIs for existing tenancies. Built on Amazon QuickSight, it helps our customers precisely analyze data for each of the proposed assignments.

The psychometrics dashboard allows universities to access psychometrics data about their tests. These metrics are brought to you via a Quicksight dashboard (access on request).  These metrics allow users to understand the “quality” of their tests using carefully crafted data. Some of the KPIs included in the dashboard are:

    • Number of students who started the test
    • Mean Score
    • Total Score Std Deviation
    • Number of Students who did not submit
    • Cronbach’s alpha
    • Highest score on the test
    • Lowest score on the test
    • Exposed Questions
    • Unexposed Questions
    • Omitted Questions
    • Answered Questions
    • Question difficulty

The dashboard can be downloaded as a PDF and the underlying data powering the visualizations can be exported as a .csv file. Learn more here.

    Technical Details

    • Impact: Test admins and authors now have access to data to see how students performed on a test.
    • Availability: Each client can request 2 accounts with the service desk to get access to the psychometrics dashboard.

    Inspera Originality

LTI 1.3 Platform Notification Service for D2L Brightspace

The Platform Notification Service (PNS) in LTI 1.3 enables seamless communication between the D2L Brightspace LMS and Inspera Originality as an external tool. PNS notifies Inspera Originality when a Course Copy event occurs in the LMS, where course content is duplicated to create a new course.

This ensures that the duplicated course content is mirrored in Inspera Originality, and a corresponding course with the same content is also created, maintaining real-time synchronization between D2L Brightspace and Inspera Originality.

    Technical Details

    • Impact: The Platform Notification Service (PNS) adds to the existing LTI 1.3 Integration with D2L Brightspace LMS without affecting the base integration between Inspera Originality as an External Tool and D2L Brightspace LMS.

    • Availability: This feature is available to all clients and doesn’t require separate enablement.

  • March Release - Released March 4th, 2025

      • Org Unit Deletion – Not included by default with Org Unit Management. Available separately on request. Customers must specifically request activation from the Service Desk.

    Inspera Resilience Proctoring

    Inspera Resilience Proctoring types

The list of proctoring types displayed for Inspera Resilience Proctoring has been updated. It will now reflect only those enabled for your tenancy and hide disabled or unavailable settings.

    Author

Code Compile Question Type (Open Beta)

We are pleased to announce that we’re moving the Code Compile question type to Open Beta. Code Compile is a question type in which the candidate can write code that is automatically compiled, run, and validated against test cases defined by the Author.

The Author can define Sample test cases, against which the candidate can run their code while taking the test, to evaluate its correctness. The Author can also define Marking test cases, which are not available for the candidate and will be used to mark the question. The Author can also provide some predefined code that will be provided to the candidate.

This question can be used in several situations, namely asking the candidate to write the code that solves a particular problem or asking the candidate to correct a piece of code provided by the Author that would contain intended errors.

To activate this feature please reach out to the service desk. For more information please check out our documentation.

Audio Record Question Type (General Availability)

We are pleased to announce that Audio Recording questions are now Generally Available. Audio Record is a question that candidates can use to record audio. Authors can use this question type to, for instance,  evaluate pronunciation or in any situation they would require an oral answer.

The candidate can re-record their answer as many times as they want before submitting. Only the last version will be submitted. To activate this feature please reach out to the service desk. For more information please check out our documentation.

    Safe Exam Browser

End of Support for Safe Exam Browser Version 3.2.5

Official support for Safe Exam Browser version 3.2.5 will end in March 2025. This means candidates will not be able to start their tests on SEB 3.2.5.

SEB 3.3.3 contains important security fixes and therefore replaces all older versions including SEB 3.2.5 which should no longer be used.

    Chromebook Progressive Web Application

Though Google has extended support for the native Kiosk app, Inspera is removing support for the native Kiosk App from May.

Inspera is releasing Chromebook Progressive Web Application (PWA) in March, offering a smoother experience, improving performance and usability, and addressing the feedback from the December Phase 1 release of the Chromebook PWA

To ensure a seamless transition, admins need to add extensions in the Google Admin console to enable online exit functionality and Stricter Kiosk Check verification. For Audio record question types, the tenancies where the tests using this question type are to be taken need to be whitelisted by the admins as well.

You can find a step-by-step guidance in our Help Center documentation on installation and key considerations for authors, invigilators, planners, and admins.

What's Improved in the Chromebook PWA?

    • More accessible resources: Two rows of Additional Resources are now visible, compared to just one in the Legacy Chromebook application.
    • Faster performance: Test assets like images and documents render more quickly, enhancing the candidate experience.
    • Better navigation: Candidates can now return to the test after opening an external link during the exam—previously, they would be stuck on the link in the Legacy app.

    Key Differences & Considerations

While the PWA maintains a secure lockdown environment, there are a few differences to be aware of:

    • Certain Additional Resource URLs having a Stricter Content Security Policy (CSP) may not be accessible.
    • A hard exit, i.e., clicking the physical power key on the Chromebook keyboard, is required when offline.
    • If multiple candidates use Google SSO on the same Chromebook, sessions will persist.
    • On the invigilator password page (when resuming a test), candidates will not be able to see or open additional resources, unlike in the Legacy app.

    Inspera UI enhancements

    New Email UI Template

Now you will have a better and cleaner UI in our emails for Password reset and creating new passwords. It is now more aligned with our branding.

    New APIs support

API support to ‘Archive’ and ‘Restore’ a Test Event (General Availability)

Test Planners who use APIs to control test events, there’s some good news for you.

We are pleased to announce that the ability to ‘Archive’ and ‘Restore’ a test event is not only on the user interface but also available via the API. For more information, please check our API documentation.

Archive test event: For stricter validation rules on archived tests—such as blocking new or deleting existing test taker enrollments—please contact our service desk.

    Accessibility Updates

Improved Contrast for Drag & Drop

Drop region outlines now meet minimum contrast ratio requirements for better visibility, benefiting users with low vision. (Previously, outlines were difficult to distinguish against the background.)

Contrast Adjustments for Notes & Highlighter

Minimum contrast requirements are now applied across all three color modes for better readability.

    Improved Form Labels & Instructions

    • Clear labels and instructions are added to form controls to help users understand expected input.
    • Enhances usability for cognitive, language, and learning disabilities and improves accuracy in submissions.
    • Visible labels also support voice activation users, enabling better interaction with assistive technology.

    Inspera Originality

    IO VPAT update

The IO VPAT has been updated to the WCAG 2.2 Guidelines and is now published, available here.

  • April Release - Released April 1st 2025

    Heads up

    Notifications Configuration Improvement

Each user can currently define which notifications they wish to receive (e.g., when a new test is created) and how (via e-mail or push notification). In the next release, we’ll add more configuration power to our users by adding more events to the notification settings.

    Candidate Originality Pre-Check

Starting in May, the integration between Inspera Assessment and Inspera Originality will feature a new enhancement, allowing candidates to upload documents for pre-checking purposes via Inspera Originality. Pre-checking allows candidates to upload documents for preliminary review, generating a dedicated originality report that highlights potential issues. This enables candidates to assess and address any originality concerns before final submission.

Unified rounding of decimals in the candidate score across Inspera Assessment

In the May release, the Candidate view will be updated to display scores with a maximum of two decimals, consistent with what Markers and Authors currently see. The API: POST “/v1/fileExport/order” with resourceType “AllResults” will fetch the same rounded value.

    Administrative

    Visibility of Tenant Configurations

    Available for: Tenant Administrator

In January 2025, we introduced the Tenant Configuration Page to enhance transparency and provide better insight into your tenant configurations. With this release, we have made significant improvements, giving you a clearer and more relevant view of your configurations.

    Key enhancements in this release:

    • Cleaner and more intuitive interface: The Tenant Configuration Page has been redesigned to improve readability and navigation.

    • Categories for better organization: Each property will now be assigned categories, helping you quickly identify and understand different configurations. Please note that category data will be continuously updated over time to improve accuracy and relevance.

    • Advanced filtering options

To improve searchability, we’ve enhanced the filtering capabilities:

      • Value filters enable filtering based on property values.

      • Category filters allow you to refine the list based on property categories.

      • Text search lets you quickly find properties by name or description.

    Ongoing improvements:

    • Continuous updates to properties and categories – The list of available properties and their categories will be continuously  updated.

    • Enhanced tenant-specific content – Over time, we will refine the list of configurations displayed based on the setup of your tenant, allowing the information to be more relevant.

    • Caption and translation enhancements – Improvements to captions and translations will be made in the upcoming period.

With these updates, the Tenant Configuration Page provides greater transparency and a more focused view, making it easier to understand your tenant configurations.

Read more about this on our Help center

    Column Change in Classic Marking

In Classic Marking, when listing the candidates of a test that does not use a grade scale, the Grader now sees a column called “Final Marks” instead of “Final Grade”, containing the Marks obtained by the candidate.

Enhanced Security for Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB)

We recently identified a potential security concern where VM System checks were passing when certain candidates were using IIB on VMware Workstations on Windows. This vulnerability has been fixed in IIB versions 1.16.2 and above to ensure the highest level of security for your assessments.

Psychometrics Dashboard: Enhanced Documentation & Our Strategy

In March, we launched the Psychometric Dashboard. This dashboard marks Phase 1 of our enhanced Test-Level Analysis strategy for Higher Education Institutions.

Its purpose is twofold: to provide clients with direct interaction with their test data via this external dashboard, and for Inspera to gather vital feedback on which statistics and visualisations users find most valuable.

Building upon that release, we've focused on enhancing the supporting documentation to ensure a smooth and productive experience. This update includes a comprehensive "Getting Started" guide, a detailed FAQ section, and provides an overview of our long-term psychometrics strategy, outlining the planned phased rollout.

Following this initial dashboard release (Phase 1), future developments include Phase 2: API Data Export (focused on enhanced data accessibility) and Phase 3: Integrated Platform Analytics (aiming for actionable insights and deeper workflow integration).

Further details regarding our strategy and phasing are described in the documentation.

    Customizable Login Captions

We have introduced the option for customers to request caption updates relating to the Candidate and Admin login screens. This will help users navigate themselves to the correct login screens if they’re not familiar with the candidate and admin names. The following default captions can be changed:

    Admin Login Screen

    • Go to Candidate Login (Top right)

    • Welcome to Admin login! (Main area)

    Candidate Login Screen

    • Go to Admin Login (Top right, if not hidden)
    • Welcome to Candidate  (Main area)

    Shared across both screens

    • Or log in with registered Inspera user credentials (Under SSO buttons, if enabled)

To make these changes, please make a request through Service Desk stating which of the five captions above you’d like changed along with your preferred wording and translations. For more information, see Customisations Within Inspera.

Option to not have Random Order of alternatives as the default

We currently offer the option to randomize the order in which the alternative answers are presented to candidates in some of our questions like Multiple Choice. This option is selected by default. We now offer the possibility to not have this option as the default. This will be applied to the following question types: Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, Matching/Pairing, Inline Choice and True/False.

Changing the default will not impact any previously created questions. After changing the default, all future questions of the aforementioned types will still have the option to randomize the order of alternatives but it will be disabled by default. To change the default behaviour please reach out to our Service Desk.

Code Compile: List of languages and compile versions updated

The list of languages and compile versions is now automatically updated to faithfully list the ones available in the third party system we use to compile the code. For more information on the Code Compile question please check the documentation

    Grade

    Grading Fixes

The "G, Ux, X" grading scale is now reporting correctly to Ladok for tests created after the May release. Tests that already use the previous scale will remain unaltered.

When the question weights are updated, the Grader now sees the correctly updated Total Marks for each section in the Candidate in Focus

    Test Player

    Score as decimals

The Candidate view is updated to display scores with a maximum of two decimals, consistent with what Markers and Authors currently see. Additionally, the API: POST “/v1/fileExport/order” with resourceType “AllResults” will now fetch the same rounded value.

    Inspera Originality

On-Demand Originality Checks in Inspera Assessment

Inspera Assessment users can now upload documents for on-demand originality checks via Inspera Originality, directly from their dashboard in Inspera Assessment. This feature is available within Inspera Assessment for the following user roles:

    • Administrators
    • Authors
    • Planners
    • Graders
    • Students

Although the workflow differs slightly between students and other users, the core functionality remains consistent for all and includes the following features:

    • Upload Section – A dedicated area for submitting documents for originality checks. After uploading, users can access a variety of originality configuration settings.
    • Status Table – A table displaying all documents submitted for originality checks. Each entry includes a Report button directly linking to the corresponding Originality Report.

For more details refer to our documentation using the links below.

On-Demand Originality Checks - Administrator, Author, Planner Grader

    On-Demand Originality Checks - Student

The feature is available for all the aforementioned admin users in accounts using Inspera Originality but it needs to be enabled for students. Please reach out to our service desk to enable it.

Metadata Analysis Available as an Option

The Metadata Analysis is now included as an available option for administrators at the institutional level, and for educators at the assignment level, allowing them to enable or disable the feature as needed. By default, this feature is disabled at the institutional level when an institution is first onboarded.

The availability of the Metadata Analysis option at the assignment level for educators depends on whether the feature was enabled by an administrator at the institutional level.

Contextual Similarity in Inspera Assessment Integration

The Contextual Similarity settings in the integration between Inspera Originality and Inspera assessment can now only be set with values between 50 and 100%.

    Inspera Integrity Browser

    Test Selection Interface

We've reorganized the test selection area into three distinct tabs for candidates

    • Active tests: This is the candidate's go-to tab for all tests that are currently live or will be starting soon. They will find key information like the test name, its current status (e.g., "Starts in X days," "Live," "In progress"), and the start and end dates.
    • Previous tests: This tab provides a read-only list of candidates finished assessments, along with their status ("Submitted" or "Not Submitted") and the corresponding start and end dates.
    • Demo tests: The "Demo tests" tab lists all available practice tests for the candidate

This improved Test Selection screen can be activated by enabling an MPP to streamline the test-taking process and ensure candidates have all the necessary information at their fingertips.

The new Test selection user guide for IIB is also available on the Help Center. We are looking to make further enhancements to this with the upcoming releases.

    Chromebook Progressive Web Application (PWA)

    Kiosk App Reminder

Inspera released Chromebook Progressive Web Application (PWA) in March, offering a smoother experience, improving performance and usability.
As communicated in previous releases, Inspera will be removing support for the native Kiosk App from May release. We strongly recommend moving to the new Chromebook Progressive Web application.

To ensure a seamless transition, admins need to add extensions in the Google Admin console to enable online exit functionality and Stricter Kiosk Check verification. For Audio record question types, the tenancies using this question type in their tests, need to be whitelisted by the admins.

You can find step-by-step guidance in our Help Center documentation on installation and key considerations for authors, invigilators, planners, and admins.

    Originality Report Sharing

This release introduces support for sharing Originality Reports for checks conducted on Essay and File upload question types in assessments. Originality Reports can now be shared with students in view mode, allowing them to review the findings without being able to make changes such as excluding or including sources.

To enable this enhancement, a new setting named Share Originality Report with Candidate has been added under the Security category. When this setting is enabled, users must specify when Originality Reports are shared with students. The currently available option is When marking is confirmed, which automatically shares the reports with students after marking is finalized.

    Synchronization between Assessment and Originality

This release introduces synchronization between Inspera Assessment and Inspera Originality. On-demand originality checks, assignments, and their corresponding submissions are fully synchronized and available in the standalone version of Inspera Originality. This synchronization is accessible to the following Inspera Assessment account types: administrators, authors, planners, and graders, who can now use the standalone version of Inspera Originality as educator users.

The standalone version of Inspera Originality offers useful features like graphs and analytics that help users easily understand data from assignments, submissions, and on-demand originality checks. Inspera Originality

Originality Report Sharing - Assessment Integration

Up until now it was possible to share the originality report in IA with the candidates once marking was confirmed. This release offers more configurability with a new “When shared by planner” option. When this option is selected, the Planner will be able to select with which candidates the report should be shared and decide the moment when the reports should be shared. Marking confirmation is still a base condition for the report to be available for candidates. More information on how and when to share the report with candidates can be found here.

    Activatable Settings per Tenant

The Translation Similarity, AI Prediction, and Archive Documents settings in the integration between Inspera Originality and Inspera Assessment are no longer available by default. Tenants must request activation through the service desk. This change does not affect existing tests, and users currently utilizing these features will continue to have access to them via the integration. More information on these settings can be found here.

    • The Learn More link next to the Request Originality Report setting is now pointing to the correct page in the documentation

    Multi-Factor Authentication

This release introduces multi-factor authentication for all user roles across Inspera Originality and is visible in the standalone application. A new Security tab has been added to the Account Settings menu, allowing users to enable multi-factor authentication for their accounts.

Once enabled, users can choose to authenticate via email or an authenticator app. Each user is provided with a set of single-use backup recovery codes for account recovery. When all recovery codes have been used, users can generate a new set.

For more details, refer to our Administrator, Educator, and Student guides.

    Design Enhancements: User Dashboards

This release introduces design enhancements across analytics pages and data tables in key account sections for administrators, educators, and students.

The examples below provide a summary of all recent developments from the perspective of an administrator account. Please note that the information available may vary depending on the user's role and permissions. For more user specific details, refer to our Administrator, Educator, and Student guides.

    1. Enhanced Analytics

The analytics pages for all user roles have been updated with a modern layout, improved navigation, and deeper insights. Key metrics are now presented through intuitive graphs and pie charts.

Information on language data is also available for Administrator and Educator users, highlighting both the most common submission languages and the most frequently used languages in translation similarity analysis. Similarly, insights into AI Score distribution across submitted documents and manipulations by type and frequency are also available.

Administrators also have access to user registration trends. This section displays user registration data by month, including the platform used for registration (e.g., Inspera Originality, Inspera Assessment, LMS, or other). Data can be filtered by academic year.

    2. Redesigned Tables

Tables across key sections for all user roles (admin, educator, student) have been redesigned for clarity, featuring a minimalist design approach. This change is applied across all key sections in user accounts where information is display in table format.

Submissions that have also been flagged for potential similarity will now feature a flag icon in their originality index.

Submissions can now also be filtered by Student ID or Date & Time. This is available for Educator users

New Institutional Settings - Display Interface Settings

The Settings & Preferences menu now includes a new settings category titled Interface Display Settings, enabling administrators to control how submission originality scores are shown throughout the user interface and within the Originality Report.

    1. Originality Scores in Originality Report - Administrators can control how originality analysis scores are shown in the Summary View of the Originality Report. The available display options are:

    • Percentage – Shows analysis originality scores in Summary View as percentages.
    • Risk Factor – Shows the score in Summary View as a risk factor, either high, medium, or low risk.
    • None – Hides all originality analysis scores from the Summary View for an unbiased evaluation experience.

    2. Originality Score in User Interface – Administrators can choose how document originality scores are displayed across the user interface. The available display options are:

    • Percentage – Shows document originality scores across the user interface as percentages.
    • Risk Factor – Shows document originality scores across the user interface as risk factor labels, either high, medium, or low risk.

Risk labels are directly tied to a document’s originality score. By default, the system considers documents with an originality score of 0% to 20% as Low Risk, 20% to 80% as Medium Risk, and 80% to 100% as High Risk

However, administrators can adjust the percentage at which each classification is assigned. For instance, they can configure the system to consider documents with an originality score of 0% to 33% as Low Risk, 34% to 55% as Medium Risk, and 56% to 100% as High Risk. When configured, this logic applies across the user interface regardless of the interface display setting (Percentage or Risk Label).

For more details, refer to our documentation

    Sharing Originality Reports Between Users

The Settings button in the Originality Report now allows report sharing between users. Report sharing is handled either via email or link. For more details, refer to our documentation

    • Share Originality Report by Email - Users must specify the recipient's email, their access level (one-time, time-based, unlimited), and the access mode, either Edit, which allows the recipient to make changes to the report, or View, which grants view-only access.

    • Share Originality Report by Link - Users must specify the recipient's access level (one-time, time-based, unlimited), and the access mode, either Edit, which allows the recipient to make changes to the report, or View, which grants view-only access. They can generate a sharable link to the originality report and new ones as needed.

    • A list of users with access to the Originality Report is also available. From this list, users can remove access as needed.

    Accessibility

    Accessibility Updates – VPAT

We’re continuing our commitment to accessibility improvements across the platform.

    • The student-side VPAT has been updated to reflect recent changes and enhancements.
    • A new Admin Marking VPAT has been added, covering the accessibility updates made specifically in that section.

These updates will be reflected in our Accessibility Statement by the end of this week. We are also actively working on making other areas of the Admin interface more accessible.

Once those updates are completed, we will publish a fully updated Admin VPAT.

    Custom Metadata for Item Banks

This month we're launching Custom Metadata for Item Banks, a new feature that gives you more control over your content. You can now create custom metadata fields and values to better categorise and organise your questions and question sets, making them easier to find and manage.

Available for Item Banks only, the feature allows users with the newly-created Custom Metadata Manager role to create up to 20 custom fields at the tenant level. You can choose from four data types: single-select lists, multi-select lists, dates, and numbers. You can either manually select which fields pull through to specific Item Banks or have them all pulled automatically.

Custom metadata fields and values can only currently be archived - the ability to edit or delete will come in the October release.

Content tagging is supported within the question or question set list view.

Reach out to the Service Desk if you would like to have this feature enabled.

Planner can decide to only share questions marks in post submission review

Up until now the setting for Post-submission review would always include the questions and the candidate's answers, with an optional setting for including correct answers and results page.

In this release we are introducing a third alternative, which allows Planners to only allow candidates to access the summary page when reviewing their submission, where they will be able to see limited information like the questions’ names and marks. Some nomenclature adjustments will also be made to the existing option. To activate this new option please reach out to the service desk.

    image.png

In the January release this will be activated for all accounts, meaning that from that moment onwards the new option will be available for Planners to use if they want to. Post submission review access will not be changed for existing tests. For more information, please check the documentation.

A pre-test Room Scan has been introduced as an option in Inspera Resilience Proctoring. If enabled it will ask the candidates to capture their room environment as part of the proctoring setup.Atleast video recording option needs to be enabled alongwith Room recording option.

With the introduction of Room Scan, the existing audio and video verifications have also been updated. The process remains the same but the appearance of the screens has changed. More details on how these will look for a candidate can be found here.

ID verification “Fully automated ID verification” needs to be explicitly enabled while setting up the test. If this is enabled, Video recording option needs to be enabled.

The room scan, along with updated audio and video verifications, needs activation and the latest player version.

    Integrations

    Subject Code available in API

When requesting information of tests containing a subject code using the GET /v1/test/{testId} endpoint, the subjectCode will be returned in the API response as part of the externalTestInfo parameter. This is specially useful for customers that use external systems, such as Ladok or FS, to archive test information. The API Docs will be updated accordingly during the month of September.

Filter Questions to show Unmarked Answers

With this release, it is possible for Graders to filter questions from in both “Candidate in Focus” and “Questions” workspaces to show questions that are yet to be marked. In Candidate in Focus there is a column called Marking Status indicating which questions were marked for a specific candidate. Now, a column called Marking Status will be available in the Questions workspace, indicating if a specific question has been graded for all candidates. Both menus will also have a filter available to filter “unmarked” questions.

This does not yet include listing the candidates for which a question was not marked.

Improved Content Access Logic for the "Restricted" Option

Previously, setting Content Access to “Restricted” meant that access to a document required an official request. We’ve now updated the logic behind the “Restricted” option. A document access request must be approved by an administrator before access to a document is granted. For example, if Institution A requests access to a document from Institution B, the request will need administrator approval before access is granted. Moreover, the administrator has full control of access, having the ability to revoke access at any time.

Improved Document Access Request Management for Administrators

The user interface for the Requests Page in the Administrator account, where both incoming and outgoing content access requests are stored and managed, has been improved for enhanced intuitiveness and streamlined functionality.

The Requests Page now features two distinct tabs, one for viewing access requests received from other institutions and another for those sent from within your institution.

The Sent tab displays all document access requests submitted from your institution to access documents at other institutions using Inspera Originality.

The Received tab displays all document access requests received from other institutions using Inspera Originality. For more details, please refer to our documentation.

    Inspera Originality Support for FEIDE

Inspera Originality now supports the FEIDE SSO functionality for Norwegian sector customers, enabling a seamless login experience for users via FEIDE credentials. This functionality is available in the standalone version of Inspera Originality and works in full parity with Inspera Assessment, where all Assessment users accessing Originality via the built-in integration are adequately synchronized.

Additionally, this functionality ensures that Educator users in Canvas who use FEIDE to authenticate to both Canvas and Inspera Originality will have the corresponding data synchronized and accessible between both platforms.

    Inspera Originality Support for SWAMID

Inspera Originality now supports the SWAMID SSO functionality for Swedish sector customers, enabling a seamless login experience for users via SWAMID credentials. This functionality is available in the standalone version of Inspera Originality and works in full parity with Inspera Assessment,  where all Assessment users accessing Originality via the built-in integration are adequately synchronized.

Additionally, this functionality ensures that Educator users in Canvas who use SWAMID to authenticate to both Canvas and Inspera Originality will have the corresponding data synchronized and accessible between both platforms.

Accessing Inspera Originality via Inspera Assessment: FEIDE Integration

To ensure consistency across systems, Inspera Originality now prioritizes the extracted FEIDE user email address. For users who access Inspera Originality via FEIDE and also authenticate to Inspera Assessment via FEIDE, the FEIDE email is prioritized over the other system emails. Drawing Tool

In January we are launching a new Drawing tool that can be used across  most question types, designed for a simple and intuitive Candidate experience. Based on the Excalidraw library, the tool is straightforward for drawing and sketching. It allows candidates to effortlessly move, modify, and delete individual elements (layers) in high resolution. This new tool will eventually replace the older Essay sketch tool functionality, more info on phasing the old tool out will follow.

    Mandatory Questions

The Mandatory Questions feature solves the challenge of Candidates submitting a test without providing crucial, required information—such as metadata for Bachelor/Master theses or other necessary preliminary data. By marking a question as mandatory, you ensure that the candidate must answer it before they can submit their test.

    • Tests without answers to all mandatory questions cannot be submitted
    • All question types (except the ‘Document’ question type) can be set as mandatory
    • Activation Required: Please contact the Service Desk to enable Mandatory Questions for your institution

    Item Banks

    Migrating Content into Item Banks

The new Item Bank Migration Planning feature allows you to simulate and prepare content for future Item Banks. Item Bank Managers first create a list of Placeholder Item Banks using a dedicated interface. Authors can then tag Unbanked content with these placeholders, and the system automatically flags any conflicts where content is assigned to multiple placeholders. After resolving these conflicts, you can filter the list view by a single Placeholder Item Bank and use the existing 'Move to bank' action to efficiently transfer your lists of content from the Unbanked space to your actual Item Bank. Additionally, the new 'See Usage' option is now available on single Questions, allowing Authors to instantly view all Question Sets where that content is used, to help audit dependencies before any move.

    Enhanced Tagging for Custom Metadata
Authors can now tag Custom Metadata more effectively and efficiently when editing multiple Questions or Question Sets at once. The Edit Custom Metadata action now opens a new modal to simplify bulk tagging for all metadata input types (single-select, multi-select, dates, and numbers). For multi-select fields, you can choose to add or remove specific values at the same time, allowing you to easily manage tags without risk of overwriting existing values. The new "Changes to apply" section provides a clear preview of the planned modifications, ensuring accuracy before you save the changes.

    Data and Analytics

Access to CTT test data with the File Export API

Available for: Author roles with view access to an item bank and

    • DDT -> Per-test metrics permissions, or
    • DDT -> Admin permission

Note: This API contains data only for tests created from an item bank.

Early availability of CTT metrics and submission data

The submission data of a test created using an item bank is available as soon as students submit their test. The submissions are then used to calculate test-level psychometrics (such as facility and discrimination) even before grading is completed for that test. This allows graders to detect flaws in a test and take marking decisions early on for a hassle-free grading process.

Control access to data sources using Custom User Roles

Based on the data requirements of a user, administrators can selectively restrict access to data sources by assigning them permissions. Additionally, a user can only view the test data from item banks that they have access to. This ensures that a user can only view data they genuinely need for their work, and not have unrestricted access to test data.

Fetch data using the existing file export API endpoint

The fileExport/order API is an existing endpoint which can be used to extract submission data and psychometrics data for a test. The API also provides options to filter the data based on query parameters (such as test ID or item bank ID), and specify the file format (JSON or parquet). The job ID returned needs to be polled using the fileExport/status endpoint to track the progress of the request and to download the file.

    Grading

Change to the Grader’s flagged question icon.

The icon for question flagging has been updated for Graders to make it easier to differentiate between the two states. For unflagged questions, the icon is a white flag on a white background and for flagged questions, the icon is a white flag on a dark grey background.

    Inspera Originality

Ability to Delete Documents for Administrators and Educators & UI Improvements

Previously, administrators and educators could only set the deletion permissions students had for their Originality Reports.

Now, they can also directly delete a student submission and its associated Originality Report from the platform. The Privacy Settings section, accessed via the Settings button in the Originality Report, has been updated with a new Delete button for administrators and educators.

We’ve also improved the UI and overall appearance of this section for all users to provide greater clarity and a more consistent experience when using Originality Report privacy settings.

Improved Functionality and UI for Downloading Reports & Submission Files

The data export feature for downloading submission files and their corresponding Originality Reports has been upgraded. It now works significantly faster and provides additional user-interface details, showing the download progress status. Additionally, users can continue to use the application without needing to wait for the downloads to conclude.

This functionality will be accessible to every user type in all areas of the application where downloading submission files and Originality Reports is available.

Improved Naming Integration between Originality and Inspera Assessment

In certain instances, the integration between Inspera Originality and Inspera Assessment resulted in users being created with numerical placeholders instead of their correct names. We have addressed this issue, and going forward, the proper naming will be applied consistently for all users created in Inspera Originality from Inspera Assessment.
