This is available for Planners and Graders.
Reusable criteria allow Planners and Graders to define additional criteria on a question after the test has been completed. Once defined on a question, the criteria will automatically become reusable for grading across all candidates. During grading, it can serve as an additional way to award bonus marks with criteria (without exceeding the maximum marks defined on the question) or as a way to apply reusable comments on a question to students.
This article explains what collections are and will show you how to define and apply reusable criteria. It also explains how to edit, delete, filter, and reset comments and marks, and how to move comments between collections.
This feature requires activation. Please contact the Service Desk to activate it for your Inspera Assessment tenancy.
Introduction
The feature is available for both Planners and Graders, but they have different roles. The Planner can define and manage reusable criteria to make it available for others. The Grader is the only one who can apply the marks and comments to a candidate's submission.
The applied reusable criteria will be visible to candidates through the Candidate Report.
There are two types of reusable criteria:
- Reusable mark: This is a comment associated with a criteria score, once applied, the criteria score will be added to the total score of that question.
- Reusable comment: This is purely a comment. Make reusable comments to quickly give students feedback.
Reusable comments can be used on any test. However, the feature for reusable marks is only available on tests that have a Threshold set to Use thresholds in the test settings.
How to add reusable criteria
-
Choosing a Collection for your reusable criteria
Before you add reusable criteria, you need to know about collections. Collections are categories that let a Grader choose whether their comments and marks are private or shared with others. They are like folders for your reusable content. You must choose a collection when you define a new reusable criteria.
- Personal collection: This is a private folder. It can only contain reusable comments (not reusable marks), and it is only visible to the Grader who created it.
- Common collection: This is a shared folder. It can contain both reusable marks and reusable comments, and it is available for all Graders on the test.
You cannot reuse the same marks and comments on different questions or tests. The collections are tied to the specific test and question, so you can only reuse them for the candidates on that test or question.

Create reusable criteria
Reusable criteria are added at the bottom of the Set Mark component. You must decide if you want to define a reusable mark or a reusable comment, and which collection you want to add it to. First go to the Grade module, and select the Marking workspace.
- On the right-side panel, find and select Criteria.
- Under Criteria there is a dropdown menu. This should be set to You.
- Select Add.
-
In the dropdown menu choose between Comment or Mark within the common or personal collections.
Note that marks are limited to two decimal places.
-
Apply reusable criteria
When you create new comments and marks, they are not applied to the question by default. To use them, you must select the checkbox next to the comment or mark.
Managing reusable criteria
After you have created reusable criteria, this section explains how to edit, delete, and organize them.
- It is important to note that it is only possible to edit reusable criteria when it hasn't been applied yet.
- To edit or delete a comment or mark, first uncheck the box.
- Select Options (three dots).
-
In the dropdown menu click on Edit or Delete.
-
Comments can be moved between Personal and Common libraries. Marks can only be created in the Common library, and therefore can not be moved to the Personal Library.
To move Comments between libraries:
- First check the boxes by the comments you want to move.
- From here either:
- Choose Personal from Select Collection dropdown.
- Select Options (three dots) next to the comment you want to move, and select Move to Personal collection.
-
This filter allows you to easily toggle the visibility of items you have not selected. When you click Hide unselected, only your selected items will be visible. When this filter is active, the Add button is disabled. To see all items again, click Show all.
-
The Reset action clears all selected criteria. If no criteria is selected, then the Reset action is disabled.
