How to request an Originality Report as a Planner

As the Planner of a test, you can request for Originality Reports to be generated for all candidate submissions on a test. This is done in the preparation phase, and the reports will be ready for the grader(s) once they start grading.

It will take up to 15 minutes after the test closes before an Originality report is published.

  1. Set up a test in the Deliver module
  2. Enable Marking 2.0 (Inspera Originality is not available in Classic Marking)
  3. Under Security test settings, click Request Originality Report
  4. Select the IO Integration Options you want to use in this test:

Some of these settings need to be enabled. Please reach out to the Service Desk to enable.

The other settings can be used by all customers

  • Contextual Similarity
  • Exclude Citations
  • Excluded source criteria
  • Include URL
  • Exclude URL

For more information about each of these options please check out our page about the Inspera Originality integration settings.

Originality Report visibility for Graders

These settings are controlled at the institution level and need to be request through our support team.

Depending on the workflows in place for the institution, we offer some flexibility when it comes to when and how the Graders can access the report (Planners will always have access to the reports):

  • Graders can view the originality score and access the report both in Marking Workspace and Grading Overviews
  • Graders can only see the originality score access the report through the Grading Overview, not in Marking: this is done to avoid biases from Graders when Marking
  • Graders can not view the originality score or access the report at all: this is done when only the Planner should be aware of any potential issue in terms of originality

When the originality score is available to Graders, its background colour will depend on the value. However, we can change it so that it is always grey, not to bias the Grader.

Read Originality Report

An originality report contains the Originality Index and the explanation for how the index was calculated.

The Originality Index, which is a classification system that takes into account various originality checks, has three different possible levels:

  • High Risk: There is a high risk of the answer not containing original content
  • Medium Risk: There is probably some content that is not original
  • Low Risk: Most likely the content is original

The explanation for how the index was calculated includes the sources and the analysis. More information about the originality report generated by Inspera Originality can be found here.

Share Originality Report with Candidates

If the Planner decides to share the report with the candidates, it will be available in the Questions set of the Candidate Report. As such, in order to enable this option it is necessary to enable Candidate Report for this test. The Candidates will only have access to the report in view mode.

Even though only the Planner can decide to share the report with the candidates, they can choose when it becomes available, with the base condition being that marking is confirmed (as the Candidate Report is not available otherwise). More information about how and when to share the report with the candidates can be found here.
