Late submissions - Planners

Information: This feature is in Open Beta. Please contact your account manager to activate this feature.

This feature is available for Planners.

Late submissions can be used to allow candidates in a test to submit their responses after the primary submission deadline. The work submitted during this late submission period is flagged as being late and the submitted time and date are captured in Monitor. This information may be used by administrators to decide if a penalty should be applied against any marks awarded.

In some scenarios, there is a need for one or more candidates to have a different late submission window than the other candidates. This feature provides complete flexibility to plan the late submission window differently for one or more candidates in the test in such scenarios.

Note: The late submission status cannot be seen in Marking as of now and has to be exported from Monitor to be viewed by graders.

Overview

Late submissions will contain the following terms:

  • Test Start Time (TST): The time when a test window begins for a given test.
  • Test End time (TET): The time at which the test window ends for a given test.
  • Primary Submission Deadline (PSD): The time when the regular submission window stops and the late submissions window begins.
  • Individual Primary Submission Deadline (IPSD): This is the Primary Submission Deadline (PSD) at an individual candidate level.
  • Individual End Time (IET): This is the end time at an individual candidate level.

Late submissions on a test level

With late submissions, you can divide a test window spanning from Test Start Time (TST) to Test End Time (TET) into two consecutive segments: a regular submissions window, and a subsequent late submissions window. The planner makes this division of the test by setting a Primary Submission Deadline (PSD). This means that any candidate submitting their response after the Primary Submission Deadline (PSD), but before the Test End Time (TET), is flagged in Monitor as having submitted their work late.

The example illustrates the following:

  • Test start time (TST): 10:00 AM
  • Primary submission deadline (PSD): 12:00 PM
  • Test end time (TET): 1:00 PM

Late submissions on a candidate level

You can specify an Individual Primary Submission Deadline (IPSD) and/or Individual End Time (IET) for any individual candidate. It should be noted that if the individual level settings for a candidate are not specified, the test level settings are applied to that candidate by default. If individual-level settings are specified for a candidate, they override the test level settings for that candidate.

The example illustrates the following:

  • Test start time (TST): 10:00 AM
  • Primary submission deadline (PSD): 12:00 PM
  • Test end time (TET): 1:00 PM
  • Individual primary submission deadline (IPSD): 12:30 PM
  • Individual end time (IET): 2:00 PM

On a candidate level

Candidate level late submissions can be determined once you've set up the late submissions on the test level.

Individual primary submission deadline (IPSD)

The Individual primary submission deadline (IPSD) can only be set after you specify the Individual end time. You can set the IPSD anywhere between the Test end time and Individual end time.

  1. In the Candidates set up, click Manage.
  2. Choose the candidate(s).
  3. In the candidate menu, click Individual primary submission deadline.
  4. Set the Individual primary submission deadline.
    • If the Test end time remains the same, the IPSD must fall in between the Test start time and Test end time.
    • If the Individual end time is specified later than the Test end time, the IPSD can fall between the Test start time and Individual end time.
  5. Click Done.

Individual end time (IET)

You can extend the Test end time for a specific candidate using Individual end time, allowing you to configure any length of late submission window for that individual candidate

  1. In the Candidates set up, click Manage.
  2. Choose the candidate(s).
  3. In the candidate menu, click Individual end time.
  4. Set the Individual end time.
    • The Individual end time must fall on or after the Test end time.
  5. Click Done.

Late submissions with extra time

In the instance that extra time is added during Late submissions, the following behavior will occur:

  • The total time available to the candidate for taking the test is the test duration plus extra time.
  • If a test has a duration, the candidate can take the test anytime within the late submissions window and complete the test.

In the example below, a candidate is given 10 minutes extra time in addition to a Late submission period. Their late submission window will now begin at 12:40 PM, and their original Individual end time of 2:00 PM is pushed to 2:10 PM.
