This article is for Planners.

The Secure Browser is a specialised application designed to create a secure and controlled environment for tests using Inspera Proctoring. The Secure Browser prevents the candidate from accessing unauthorised resources and helps to safeguard the integrity of your test.

Key Features of the Secure Browser

1. Enhanced Test Integrity

  • Limited Browser Functionality: The Secure Browser limits functionalities that could lead to distractions or cheating. This includes preventing access to other applications, messenger apps, and stored documents on the candidate’s device. The Secure Browser will prevent the candidate from starting or continuing the test until all background applications have been closed.
  • Access Restrictions: By restricting access to unauthorised resources, the Secure Browser ensures candidates remain focused on the test, providing a more controlled and secure environment.

2. Restricted Keyboard and Mouse Functionality

  • Disabled Shortcuts: The Secure Browser disables various keyboard shortcuts and mouse-click functionalities that could be used to bypass security measures. This includes common commands like cut-copy-paste, Alt+F4, Win keys, right-click options, and more.

3. Limited Navigation with Permitted Resources

  • Permitted Resources Only: The Secure Browser restricts internet access, allowing candidates to access only the Resources you have defined in Inspera Assessment for the test.
Note: It is important to be careful when choosing Resources to use with the Secure Browser, as it does not prevent the candidate from browsing more widely. For example, allowing access to a specific Wikipedia page might inadvertently permit candidates to browse Wikipedia more broadly, which could compromise the integrity of the test.

Compatibility and System Requirements

The Secure Browser application is compatible with Windows and macOS. Please ensure your candidates verify that their devices meet the system requirements specified under the section ‘Inspera Recorded, Record & Review and Live Proctoring’..

Important: Candidates must have admin permissions on their computer to download and install the Secure Browser. They do not require admin permissions to subsequently open and use the Secure Browser.
