Important update: Path to New Author

Allowing you to control when it will be switched on
We would like to thank our community for your valuable feedback provided throughout the development and testing of New Author. A key takeaway was that you wanted greater control over when it was switched on in your Inspera tenancy and so we are offering this.

What’s staying the same:

  1. Legacy Author will be switched off in January 2028
  2. Once you enable New Author, it becomes the default environment for authors to use. Until January 2028, a user can switch back to the legacy environment if they wish at the click of a button
  3. Unless you contact us (see below), we will switch on New Author in your Inspera tenancy in January 2027

What’s changing:
If you do not want us to switch on New Author in January 2027, please let us know. We can defer the switchover to an alternative release date during 2027.

This gives you control of when New Author appears in Inspera. You might choose instead to pick a holiday period (eg Spring or Summer) or another point convenient to you. If you do pick a new date, we would encourage you to not leave it too late in 2027, knowing that New Author will be the only environment from January 2028 onwards.

What we can not offer: Switching on New Author but leaving Legacy Author as the default. This is not a possible system configuration due to the way in which New Author works.

How we can help: New Author brings greater possibilities to the way in which you can design your assessments but within a familiar environment rather than something completely new. Our new capabilities such as AI assisted marking are only available in New Author and that will continue to be the environment we develop to help you write richer, authentic questions. We are more than happy to help you in your journey to using New Author, to help your wider team see that the change is less daunting than assumed. Please do contact your Account Manager who can help with this process.

Inspera Scan will reach its end of life in January 2027.
Following the release of Inspera Docs, which is our revised and more effective tool for the bulk scanning of paper submissions into a digital format, we have made the decision to end support for Inspera Scan in January 2027. If you are still using Inspera Scan, please reach out to your Account Manager to begin the process of converting to Inspera Docs.

Inspera Assessment & Inspera Graide

Introducing AI-Assisted Marking: Faster, Smarter Grading Powered by Inspera Graide
AI-Assisted Marking, powered by Inspera Graide, brings explainable AI grading directly into Inspera Assessment’s Marking 2.0 interface. Designed for manually marked responses, including Text Area and Essay questions, the AI learns from human marking to generate intelligent score suggestions and feedback aligned with your rubrics and criteria.

Inspera Graide uses Classification AI, not Generative AI, to support your marking. As humans mark and add feedback, Inspera Graide looks across the cohort of submissions to suggest where the same marks and feedback would also be applicable. Graders can then approve or reject the suggestions.

No marks or feedback are created by Generative AI. The classification AI engine uses what human graders have done and improves consistency and speed. The model’s entire knowledge of the question is the marking your educators supplied, and when a response doesn’t resemble anything it has seen before, the system says so and routes the script to a human.

For more information on our approach to AI supported marking, see our Help Centre article here:

Two important notes:

  • Inspera Graide requires a separate license and agreement. Please contact your Account Manager for further details and pricing. Our service desk are not able to switch on Inspera Graide until you have signed an amendment to your Inspera agreement.
  • Inspera Graide is compatible with New Author and Marking 2.0. It does not work in our legacy environments.

Inspera Assessment

Inspera Docs: Enhanced Duplicate Detection across Upload Batches
When moving files to Review, Inspera Docs now cross-checks the new sheets against those already in Review. If matching Question Code and Page Number combinations are detected across different upload batches, both files are automatically routed to the Page Number Discrepancies tab for review.

Inspera Assessment & Inspera Integrity Browser

The path to Inspera Integrity Browser Version 2
A reminder that our current plan is to stop the use of version 1 Inspera Integrity Browser in April 2027. We set out the path to upgrading in the October release webinar and sent out a video with an excerpt from the webinar if you were unable to attend. Please contact your Account Manager if you do not have access to the video.

Improved Accessibility in Inspera Integrity Browser with v.2.4.0
Following the release of IIB v2.3.0 last month, we are now releasing v.2.4.0 which adds support for the following screenreaders: JAWS, Narrator and NVDA in Windows 10 and 11, Voiceover in MacOS 14, 15 and 26. This represents a major upgrade in the accessibility of our exam security capabilities with each of the setup screens now accessible to screen readers as well as the assessment screens.

Screenreader support is in open beta. We recommend testing with your assessment questions. Detailed information is available in the Help Centre article linked here:
https://support.inspera.com/hc/en-us/articles/40049351196957-How-to-use-Screenreaders-with-IIB?brand_id=360001421772

To upgrade to v2.4.0 and enable screen reader support, please contact our service desk.

MacOS 27 is officially supported with IIB.
MacOS 27 has been tested with IIBv1 and IIBv2, and is now officially supported.

Inspera Exam Portal references on the Deliver test page have been removed.
As of the November Release, the Inspera Exam Portal references on the Deliver test page have been removed. The Inspera Exam Portal reference in the Introduction page in IIB has also been removed in IIB 2.4.0 version.

Inspera Originality

This month sees a number of usability enhancements to Inspera Originality. We are grateful to our large active user community for their constant engagement on how you want to use similarity detection tools.

Improved user experience in the Canvas integration
Educators can access originality reports directly within Canvas SpeedGrader, providing a seamless workflow without needing to leave the LMS though the LTI 1.3 with Document Asset Processor integration in Canvas. Enabling this improvement requires contact with our Service Desk and a configuration change in your Canvas environment. But rest assured, your existing archive remains accessible!

Hide all subjects to students and leave only "Enroll with key"
All subjects are now hidden from the student view, leaving only the “Enroll with Key” option available. This ensures students can only access subjects they have been explicitly invited to join using an enrollment key.

Consistency of educator and student list label
Standardised the column headers for the Edit and Delete actions across the Educator and Student lists. This ensures a consistent interface and improves clarity when managing users.

Display labels of menu items in Originality Report
Improved the display of menu item labels to ensure they are clearly visible and consistently presented across the platform. This enhancement makes navigation more intuitive and improves the overall user experience.

Removed AI prediction labels from the user interface where you do not use this option
For customers who have opted not to enable the AI prediction capabilities in Inspera Originality, we have removed all remaining AI prediction labels from the user interface.

Add "Include sentence-level findings" when mass downloading reports from admin dashboard
Administrators can now select the "Include sentence-level findings" option when mass downloading reports from the admin dashboard. This provides greater flexibility and ensures that detailed sentence-level findings can be included in exported reports.

Error on "Export data" label
Fixed an issue where exporting data after filtering by assignment resulted in an error message instead of downloading the file. Administrators can now successfully export submissions for specific assignments in Excel or CSV format.

"Filter by date" to be relevant when exporting data in dashboard
Data exports now respect the selected date filters in the Admin Dashboard, ensuring that only submissions within the specified date range are included. This brings date filtering in line with existing subject filtering, providing more accurate and consistent Excel and CSV exports.

Add option for "Excluded Source Criteria" when uploading as an educator.
Educators can now configure “Excluded Source Criteria” when uploading documents, allowing them to define the level of similarity at which sources should be excluded from similarity analysis. This provides greater control over the analysis process and helps reduce irrelevant matches in originality reports.

Add option for "Allow Character Replacement Exceptions" when uploading as an educator
Educators can now enable the “Allow Character Replacement Exceptions” option when uploading documents. This provides greater flexibility in handling character replacements during document analysis, helping ensure more accurate similarity results.

Admin - Search all types admin/Educator/Student on the same page
Administrators can now search for all user types, including administrators, educators, and students, from a single page. This simplifies user management by eliminating the need to switch between different sections to find specific users.

Filter subjects based on platform origin
Platform colors are now standardised across the dashboard, making it easier to identify submissions from Inspera Originality, Inspera Assessment, LMS, and other sources. Users can also filter subjects by platform for a clearer and more focused overview of their data.

Ability to exclude cover pages from document findings
Institutions can now opt-in to exclude cover pages from document findings, ensuring that content on these pages does not contribute to similarity results. This helps reduce irrelevant matches and provides a more accurate representation of the document’s originality.

Exporting in admin dashboard should reflect the fields selected from filtering
Administrators can now customize their data exports based on the fields selected in the Admin Dashboard. Exported files will automatically reflect the selected fields, ensuring consistency between the dashboard view and the exported data.

Inspera Graide

Document Upload Submission Type

We have added an option on an assignment for the assignment to be a document upload. This allows the learner to upload a pdf or docx file as their submission, and the new marking interface allows for marking directly on the pdf.

Overhaul to admin provisioning via LTI

Rather than provision admins via the institution role via LTI we are making the provisioning of admins on an org fully manual. There are updates to the super admin dashboard and organisation dashboard to allow admins to set other admins. The change will also downgrade current admins and then we will seed the orgs with an initial admin to set up others

AI disable toggles (General Availability)

You now have full control over when AI assistance is used in your assignments. In line with EU AI Act requirements, AI functions can be switched off at any time.

What’s new:

  • Independent controls: The annotation AI and the rubric AI can each be disabled separately at assignment level.
  • Flexible timing: Toggle AI off in a live assignment, or before the assignment goes live.
  • No predictions while off: Neither annotation nor rubric predictions (as appropriate to the engine you’ve disabled) will be generated.
  • Training data: While AI is disabled, no new data from that assignment is used to train the models. Data already in the models at the point of disabling remains.

What happens to existing marking:

  • Unsubmitted marking: AI suggestions on any marking not yet submitted as complete are removed. This includes partially marked work: your own feedback is kept, and only the AI suggestions are removed.
  • Completed marking: AI suggestions you accepted by submitting the marking as complete are kept, as they’ve already been reviewed and approved by the marker.

Turning AI back on
When you re-enable AI, it will run again on any marking that hasn’t been started yet (including work that has been viewed but not modified). It will not run on partially completed marking where feedback has already been applied. This matches how AI marking processing currently works.

Organisation metrics improvements (Early Access)

We’ve improved the super admin usage metrics dashboard, which lets super admins view usage metrics across all organisations for a selected date range.

Improvements:

  • Clearer metrics: Metric titles are now human readable, with explanatory tooltips where helpful.
  • Accuracy fix: The “assignments published” metric now correctly counts only published assignments.

New metric:

  • Modules created within the date range
  • Assignments published within the date range
  • Active students: students who made a submission in the date range
  • Active educators: educators who submitted any marking or created any assignments in the date range
  • Platform access count: the number of unique users who accessed the platform each day, summed across the date range

Organisation admin access
A new feature flag lets organisation admins view the metrics dashboard for their own organisation.
Organisation dashboard clean-up

The module list is now the home page.
The question pricing report export page only appears when question pricing is enabled for your organisation.
