This page is written for institutions that are either existing Inspera customers or are considering implementing Inspera.

If you are a candidate, please refer to your institution’s own guidance on taking an assessment using the Inspera platform.  Your institution may impose different requirements to our minimum specification.

The minimum system requirements depend on which configuration of Inspera you are using:

  • Inspera Assessment (open book, no lockdown or proctoring)
  • Inspera Assessment with Safe Exam Browser (Lockdown using SEB)
  • Inspera Assessment with Inspera Exam Portal (Lockdown with or without proctoring)

Inspera Assessment with Inspera Exam Portal

Lockdown with or without proctoring (Inspera Smarter Proctoring)

Inspera Assessment can be combined with Inspera Exam Portal (IEP), an in-house application that provides a lockdown environment to prevent candidates from accessing anything else on the computer for the duration of their assessment.  As a further option, Inspera Smarter Proctoring can be used in record & review.  Inspera Exam Portal is only available for Windows and macOS.

Inspera Exam Portal minimum requirements

  • Windows: 7, 8.1, 10 and 11 on 64-bit platforms
Note: Support for Windows 7 and 8.1 are discontinued from IEP version 1.14.19.
  • macOS: OS X 10.15 and higher
Note: Minimum requirement is macOS Big Sur (version 11) and higher from IEP 1.15.0.
  • OpenGL 2.0 graphics driver
  • CPUs newer than 2011 (Intel Sandy Bridge (Core i3, i5, and i7) or newer)
  • Minimum SSE 4.2 in AMD processors and CPU
  • A broadband internet connection (0.15Mbps upload speed)
  • A working internet connection during installation so that the configuration file can be downloaded

Inspera Smarter Proctoring minimum requirements

  • Windows: 7, 8.1, 10 and 11 on 64-bit platforms
Note: Support for Windows 7 and 8.1 are discontinued from IEP version 1.14.19
  • macOS: OS X 10.15 and higher
Note: Minimum requirement is macOS Big Sur (version 11) and higher from IEP 1.15.0.
  • CPUs newer than 2011 (Intel Sandy Bridge (Core i3, i5, and i7) or newer)
  • 75 MB of free storage space per hour
  • Web camera & microphone (internal or external)
  • A broadband internet connection (0.15Mbps upload speed)
  • A working internet connection during installation so that the configuration file can be downloaded

Depending on the security settings implemented by the institution for each test, candidates may be required to have Admin rights. For instance, Administrator permission is needed for IEP in Strict lockdown mode to install and launch IEP, as well as to restart, stop, or start IEP in case it is interrupted.

Note: If you are running a Windows machine and want to install and run a different configuration than the existing IEP version and configuration, IEP first needs to be uninstalled, then reinstalled.
