What is our vision for the “New Candidate Dashboard”?

The new dashboard is a unified house for not only summative exams but also formative assessments. It is being designed with the following aspirations:

  • Accelerated Learning: It drives the focus back to learning with the bespoke user experience for our formative capabilities Assessment Paths and Multiple Attempts.
    • Multiple Attempts allow users to practice and learn at their own pace, receiving instant feedback. This is proven to drive skill development and academic performance. 
    • Assessment Paths allows continuous learning, with a series of assessments that evaluate users’ progress and guide their learning journey over time. It's a dynamic way for educators to enhance learning, provide tailored feedback, and allow flexibility in assessment types. 
  • Inclusivity: Designed for AAA/AA compliance, featuring enhanced navigation, landmarks, and heading hierarchy for assistive technologies. Includes comprehensive page titles and descriptive alt-text labels to improve user accessibility.
  • Usability: Intuitive design based on customer feedback and usability studies, featuring a refreshed global menu, quick onboarding tour, and default ordering to highlight tests requiring immediate attention at the top.

How does it work?

Planners can choose what is visible within the Candidate dashboard within the Test settings.

Candidate experience

The revamped Candidate dashboard presents three distinct perspectives: Regular Assessments, Assessment Paths, and Multiple Attempts.

Outlined below is the candidate dashboard's journey, focusing on a regular assessment, encompassing stages from pre-submission to post-test submission.

Candidate welcome page

Candidates are given a brief introduction tour of the new Candidate dashboard.

The following information can be found on the Candidate welcome page for a normal assessment :

  • Candidate ID
  • Individual or Grouped test
  • Test name
  • Test Start Time and Test End Time
  • Test duration
  • When their test was last accessed
  • Previous tests
  • Demo tests

Candidate submission page

The following information can be found on the Candidate submission page for a normal assessment:

  • Test name
  • Individual or Grouped test
  • Test Start Time and Test End Time
  • Test submission time and date
  • Test Results
    • View submission
    • Download submission

Candidate post-submission page

The following information can be found on the Candidate post-submission page for a normal assessment:

  • Test name
  • Grade
  • Test name
  • Individual or Grouped test
  • Test Start Time and Test End Time
  • Test submission time and date
  • Test Results
  • Candidate report

Default Ordering

Tests displayed on the Candidate dashboard will display tags to aid candidates in effective time management. The goal is to prioritize tests that need immediate attention.

Test Categories

  1. Tests Started But Not Submitted (Tagged as "IN PROGRESS"): These are the tests that have been already started by the candidate but are not yet submitted by her. Sort these tests based on the "Test End Time", displaying the tests that will end sooner at the top. If two tests have the same end time, sort them based on the "Test Start Time", showing the ones that started earlier first.

  2. Tests Started But Not Closed (Tagged as "DUE"): These are the tests where current time is between test start time and test end time for the candidate. The candidate has not started the test. Sort these tests based on the "Test End Time", displaying the tests that will end sooner at the top. If two tests have the same end time, sort them based on the "Test Start Time", showing the ones that started earlier first.

  3. Tests Not Started (Tagged as "UPCOMING"): These are the tests that are not yet started. Sort these tests based on the "Test Start Time", displaying the tests that will start sooner first. If two tests have the same start time, sort them based on the "Test End Time", showing the ones that will end sooner first.

  4. Tests Submitted with Results Available (Tagged as "RESULTS AVAILABLE"): These tests have their final results released to candidates. They should be sorted based on the time when final results were made visible to candidates, showing the ones where the final result was made available sooner first. If two tests have the same final result availability time, sort them based on the "Submission Time", showing the ones that were submitted earlier first.

  5. Tests Submitted but Results Not Available (Tagged as "SUBMITTED"): These tests have been submitted, but their grade is not yet available. They should be sorted based on the "Submission Time", showing the ones that were submitted earlier first. If two tests have the same submission time, sort them based on the "Test Start Time", showing the ones that started earlier first.

  6. Tests Closed but Not Submitted (Tagged as "NOT SUBMITTED"): Sort these tests based on the "Test End Time", displaying the tests that ended sooner at the top. If two tests have the same end time, sort them based on the "Test Start Time", showing the ones that started earlier first.

Accessibility

The new Candidate Dashboard is being designed with accessibility in mind to allow inclusive adoption in compliance with AAA/AA industry standards. 
  • The dashboard now includes a "Skip to Main Content" link for enhanced navigation.
  • It also features a well-defined landmark structure and a thoughtful heading hierarchy, benefiting users relying on assistive technologies.
  • Comprehensive page titles and descriptive alt text labels have been implemented, further improving accessibility.
  • Seamless keyboard interaction and meticulous element definitions are currently in progress, contributing to a more user-friendly experience for keyboard and screen reader users.
In the months ahead, we will continue our efforts to enhance accessibility within the Candidate Dashboard.

Why is it being launched now?

Focus on Formative Assessments: The launch aligns with Inspera's focus on introducing formative assessment capabilities, leading to a reevaluation and enhancement of the dashboard.

  • Addressing Usability and Accessibility: The timing provides an opportunity to address usability and accessibility issues, aiming to continually improve user workflows and candidate experiences.
