This is available for Users with extended access.
Inspera Assessment offers a functionality to lock test settings, ensuring no further changes are made to a test before it is activated and started. This is particularly useful for institutions with a quality assurance process or central offices that approve tests.
This article explains how to lock editing of test settings, details how to unlock them, and outlines important limitations of the feature.
This feature requires activation. Please contact the Service Desk to activate it for your Inspera Assessment tenancy.
Understanding Test Setting Lock
Locking test settings provides a safeguard against unintended or unauthorized modifications to a test's configuration. A common use case is for final exams at a learning institution, where a central office approves the test and needs to ensure no changes are made before the actual test event takes place. When this feature is activated on you Inspera Assessment enviroment, it is disabled by default.
Test settings can still be edited via API if the API user has extended access, even if the lock setting is enabled on the test.
How to lock and unclock editing
-
Once this functionality is enabled, a lock symbol will appear in the upper right corner of the Deliver module. By default, the lock is open, indicating that settings are editable. You can lock a test at any time in the test lifecycle, regardless of the test status.
- Within the Test Setup, click Lock editing
-
A success message will display, typically stating: Test settings locked
After locking, all settings for that test will be locked, preventing all users from editing them through the user interface.
- Once a test's settings have been locked, only Users with extended access can unlock them. You can unlock a test at any time in the test lifecycle, regardless of the test's current status.
- To unlock the test, click Unlock editing
-
A success message will display, for example: "This test has now been unlocked and can be edited by all users with access to the test."
Known limitations
Be aware of the following specific limitations when locking test settings:
- Test End Time: Locking the test settings will not apply to the test end time. This can still be modified by the Planner.
- Question Set Revision: If there is a new revision of the question set available, the Planner will still be able to update to the newest revision when prompted, even if the test is locked.
