Add a template to an existing test

This article is being updated.

This is feature is available for Planners. Please contact the service desk to activate.

What is it for: If you saved a test template, you can add the template to an already existing test in Inspera Assessment. This is particularly useful for users who create tests via API and want to add a template after the test has been created in Inspera.

How it works

The user can add a template to a test when standing in the Test overview window in Deliver Screenshot_2021-10-22_at_16.11.57.png

The user will be presented with the templates available based on their user roles and content shared with the user.

The user has the option to open the template in a new window to preview.

The user will be presented with information on what will happen if the action is confirmed. The information should include which group of settings will be updated. Screenshot_2021-10-22_at_16.19.39.png

After confirming action the test will be updated with the data from the template.

Information on which template the test is updated with will be shown for the user in the Test overview window.

The user can add new templates to the test, also if the test has been updated with a template at an earlier point.

Option to add a template by clicking on template name and template icon.

The action should be available as long as the test is not activated.

The user can preview the template in a new window by clicking on the icon next to the template icon. Screenshot_2021-10-19_at_12.28.28.png
The user will not be able to add new templates to the test after activation. The test can be deactivated and updated with a template as long as no candidates have started the test. Screenshot_2021-10-22_at_16.17.07.png

Details on how fields are updated

When updating an existing test with a template these fields will NOT be updated:

  • Time and Duration

  • Candidates

When adding a template to a test all fields (except those listed above and the exemptions listed below) will be overwritten with the data from the template. Fields with no data/selection in the template should also be updated in the test.

The user will be able to add a template to a test multiple times, as long as the test is not activated. The test will each time be updated with all fields (except those listed above).

Fields that will be updated:

  • Question set *

  • Test information

  • Contributors *

  • Committees *

  • Org Unit (if enabled)

  • All settings under Options

Committees

If there are committees on test these will not be removed when applying the template.

If there are committees on the template these will be added to the test in addition to what's there already.

Contributors

If there are existing contributors on a test, they are not affected or removed when applying the template.

If there are contributors on the template these will be added to the test in addition to what's there already. However, it is possible to remove these extra contributors from the test after adding the template.

Question set

Scenario 1: If a question set is added to the test prior to the template and there is NOT a question set found on the template the question set on the test should remain.

Scenario 2: If a question set is added to the test prior to the template and there is a question set found on the template, the question set on the test should be replaced by the question set from the template. the question set from the template should be added to the test.

Scenario 3: If there is NOT a question set added to the test prior to the template and there is NOT a question set found on the template the test will remain without a question set.

Scenario 4: If there is NOT a question set added to the test prior to the template and there is a question set found on the template the question set from the template should be added to the test.

Design settings

Referring to the scenarios on Question set.

If the question set is updated from the template (Scenario 2 and 4) the design settings should also be updated based on the template.

If the question set is not updated from the template (Scenario 1 and 3) the design setting should not be updated based on the template.

Assessment settings

Referring to the scenarios on Question set.

If the question set is updated from the template (Scenario 2 and 4) the Assessment settings should also be updated based on the template.

If the question set is not updated from the template (Scenario 1 and 3) the Assessment settings should not be updated based on the template.

Org unit

In today's functionality “create new test from template” the org unit is not included. Therefore this specification also includes necessary changes to today's solution.

Create new test from template

  • When creating a template from a test the org unit on the test should be included in the template

  • When creating a test from a template the org unit on the template should be included in the new test

Add template on existing test

  • When updating a test with a template, which includes an org unit, this should also be copied over to the test.

  • When updating a test with a template, which does not include an org unit, the org unit field in the test should not be overwritten.
