How to correct multiple choice answer keys

  • Updated

This is available for Planners and Graders

Answer key corrections allow Planners and Graders to correct a wrong answer key for Multiple Choice questions within the Grading module. This can be done before a test has closed or during the marking process.

This article will explain how to edit and update an answer key, and provides important information on the feature.

This feature requires activation. Please contact the Service Desk to activate it for your Inspera Assessment tenancy.

Important notes on answer key corrections

  • This feature is currently only available for Multiple Choice questions.
  • Authors will be notified of a new revision in Recent events, on the main dashboard, and can preview the revision.
  • Before the test

    • Tests that contain a question with an altered answer will prompt a warning message in the Test Setup, but only before the test has been activated. Planners can choose between using the updated version or the old version.

  • During the test

    • You can edit Multiple Choice questions before a test has closed and during the marking process.
    • Key corrections cannot be made if a candidate is still in progress, or if they have started the exam but did not submit. To work around this you will have to submit the test on behalf of the candidate.
  • After the test

    • After marking is complete, you cannot change the answer key unless you reopen marking.
    • If a change happens after a candidate’s grades have been confirmed, their grades will not be automatically updated.

How to update the answer key

When you change an answer in the Answer key, the question is also updated. This change creates a new revision of the question. It is important to know that this change is not automatically applied to other tests. Any other test that uses that question must be manually updated to use the latest version.

Once you have selected Edit correct answer, the Answer keys settings page will open.

  1. Select the question you want to edit by clicking on the Question dropdown menu.
    • Tip: You can preview the question by scrolling to the bottom of the page, under the Select one alternative section.
  2. Select your alternative. The previous answer is highlighted in green.
  3. Click Update.
  4. To revert your changes, select Revert changes.

Known issues and limitations

  • If the question is set up with marks per alternative it is not eligible for answer key corrections. This is noted in the interface in the marking tool.
  • The key correction interface for the Planer is not currently displaying the correct answer preview.
