Inspera Integrity Browser v2
We are delighted to announce the release of Inspera Integrity Browser version 2.
The release webinar will cover the changes to IIB v2 in detail. We will also be sending key contacts at your institution a slide deck covering the changes.
This release is a major step forward in the security, accessibility, and student experience provided by our proprietary locked-down browser. Our ethos since launching IIB in 2020 is that security is best delivered when we write and control the codebase directly. This allows us to adapt swiftly to education needs and integrate tightly with Inspera Assessment.
What’s new in IIB v2?
- Native ARM processor support. Rather than the translation layers used in IIB v1 and other secure browsers such as SEB, we have rewritten IIB to provide native support for the increasingly popular ARM processor found in both Windows and MacOS devices. In turn, this increases device compatibility, performance speed and reduces memory usage. If your candidates have devices that use ARM processors, we strongly urge you to upgrade IIB as soon as possible
- Compatibility with our new Excel Question Type: IIB v2 is the only locked down browser that you can use with our new Excel question type also launched this month.
- User interface enhancements: A refreshed user-interface that balances the familiarity of IIB v1 but in a more modern design.
- Improved candidate workflow. For candidates being proctored using Inspera Resilience Proctoring, the video, audio and ID checks are now in the assessment workflow so that they have a web based look and feel. This also allows us to enhance these checks independent of the IIB application
- Security and architecture improvements. Security improvements at the browser-engine level that enable us to continue to support, secure, locked down exams and guard against emerging threats. Transition to an HTML codebase to improve the speed of future development and flexibility to provide a user interface in languages other than English. Improved rendering and Javascript capabilities to future proof changes in Inspera Assessment.
In future releases we intend to add:
- Screen reader support. Planned to be available in open beta in November 2026, screen readers will be able to read IIB screens as well as the assessment
- Language support. Planned for open beta in December 2026, IIB v2 will be available in the user interface languages as Inspera Assessment
- Google SSO. Planned for Q1 2027. We will introduce the ability to sign into IIB v2 using Google SSO
Upgrading to IIB v2 - Timeline
Our current plan is for all users to switchover to IIB v2 by April 2027 at which point IIB v1 will not longer be available for use
We recommend that customers switchover immediately if:
- You need native ARM device support; neither IIB v1 or Secure Exam Browser (SEB) provide this natively,
- You want to start using the Excel Question Type.
If ARM & Excel are not imperatives then we recommend switching over in:
- November, to benefit from screen reader support in open beta
- December to benefit from languages other than English in open beta
- Q1 2027 to benefit from Google SSO for your candidates
Excel Question Type
Starting this month, candidates can answer questions directly inside an Excel worksheet embedded in Inspera. You can set these up for both automatic and manual marking.
With the growing demand for secure but also authentic assessment, we have made this new question type compatible with Inspera Integrity Browser version 2 which is also being released this month.
The new Excel question type can only be used with IIB version 1 for experimentation purposes. It is not for actual use with students.
Note, the new Excel question type is not compatible with Safe Exam Browser (SEB). If you are an SEB user and want to use the new Excel question type in locked down mode, please contact your Account Manager.
This question type allows candidates to perform calculations, build financial models, or analyse data using real official Microsoft Excel functionality. The test author/question creator can also upload a starter Excel workbook (.xlsx) containing baseline data, instructions, financial tables, or predefined templates for candidates to work from.
Grading Workflows
We are very excited to announce that the much anticipated feature, Grading Workflows, has entered General Availability.
No longer do you have to change the way you grade to fit a pre-designed workflow in a platform. We allow you to put your quality assured workflows into Inspera. Whether it’s one round of double blind marking where conflict are calculated or discussed depending on size, a multi-step workflow where post first marking, submissions are sent on different paths depending on the mark, or the many other workflows used across academia, we have designed this new capability so that you can create grading workflow templates for re-use.
At each phase you can specify:
- Allocation - Who is allocated the submission to mark.
- Marking - How is the submission being marked?
- Calculations - How are differences in scoring resolved?
- Rules - Where does the submission go next?
You can activate Grading Workflows via Service Desk. To help you get the most out of it, our Enablement Team will support your use of this powerful new capability.
Inspera Assessment
Improvements:
New caption for candidates on the Withdraw Screen
We have introduced an additional caption to the Withdraw screen in the test player to ensure candidates are fully informed before confirming their decision to exit a test. This new messaging clarifies that withdrawing will result in their answers being deleted and that the action cannot be undone, providing a similar level of guidance to the "Submit Blank" process.
Bug Fixes:
Drawing Tool no longer removes Highlighting
As of this release, opening the Drawing Tool will no longer remove highlights that a student has made to the wider question.
Inspera Docs
Improvements:
Improvement to Question Code Readability
To ensure that all Question Codes are read correctly, we have made improvements to the Question Code Readability. This ensures that frayed edges, smudges around the Question Code box, and other potential issues are mitigated.
Inspera Resilience Proctoring
Improvements:
We have updated our Pre-Test Check Instructions to comply with EU AI Act
In order to comply with the EU AI act, we have updated the Pre-Test Check Instructions with a new message to clarify the use of AI during the assessment. This is the new message:
"AI system is used to monitor activities from the recording for human invigilators to review."
Bug Fixes:
Low light detection: change in calculation point
A configurable option in Inspera Resilience Proctoring allows you to automatically terminate a session if there is low light detected for a certain specified period. Currently, this is triggered to begin counting immediately after pre-checks are completed. If a candidate’s webcam takes longer than the period specified to activate, a session would be terminated.
To prevent this from happening, we now have the option for the timer to start after the webcam is activated at the start of the test. To enable this new option, your candidates must be using Inspera Integrity Browser version 2 and you will need to contact our service desk to activate this specific option.
Inspera Originality
Improvements:
Extra Filter for Content - Status
We have added another filter to Content access that will allow administrators and educators to have the ability to filter by status, e.g. All, Pending, Revoked, Approved.
Extra Filter for Educator's list - Active and Inactive
Ability for administrators to filter educators by status (active or inactive) for an easier way to sort through educators.
Date and Time of Originality Report Generation
In the details of the Originality Report, there is now information of the date and time that the report was generated.
Dashboard Improvements for Educators and Administrators
With the October release, we have made improvements in the dashboard functionality for both educator and administrator users:
- (As admin) Student submissions: Added number of words.
- (As admin) Professor submissions: Added actions, archived, status, and number of views.
- (As educator) Added actions, archived, status, and number of views, and the ability to customise the column view.
Added the Option to Disable the Ability for Students to Request Resubmission within Inspera Originality Standalone
We have added the option for Institutions to opt out of students having the ability to request to resubmit. This requires a Service Desk ticket and is not a UI toggle.
Text manipulation to be optional in institutional settings.
Added the option for institutions to exclude text manipulations as an institutional setting.
