Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB) v2.x.x — Release & Upgrade Guide

Inspera Integrity Browser Version 2 (IIB v2.x.x) is an architectural, security, and usability upgrade designed to deliver a modern, consistent, and future-ready locked-down assessment experience. While preserving the trusted security model institutions rely on, IIB v2.x.x introduces improved device compatibility, streamlined candidate workflows, and foundational platform upgrades.

What’s New in IIB v2.x.x

  • Security & Engine Upgrade: Upgraded from Chromium Embedded Framework, incorporating critical Chromium security patches, modern web-platform capabilities, and updated HTML/JavaScript rendering capabilities for rich assessment content.

  • Native ARM Support: Native builds for both macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows ARM devices.

The https://<Your domain name>/get-iib link will auto-detect the device architecture (ARM or Intel) and download the relevant Installer. If it can't detect the device architecture, candidates will see a page with instructions on how to check their device's processor and download the relevant IIB installer.

    • macOS: Removes reliance on Apple's Rosetta 2 translation layer, ensuring long-term compatibility and improved performance. If https://<Your domain name>/get-iib link is not able to detect the device's processor, the candidate will be shown the following:

    • Windows: Eliminates emulation overhead, resolving system check failures on Windows ARM devices.
If https://<Your domain name>/get-iib link is not able to detect the device's processor, the candidate will be shown the following:

  • Excel Question Type Support: Full support for Excel question types on both macOS and Windows, enabling candidates to answer questions directly within embedded O365 Excel interfaces without requiring student Microsoft licenses.

  • Fewer False positive IRP events: Upgraded the library used in Inspera Resilience Proctoring (IRP), reducing false positives for events like "Person entering frame" and "Person leaving frame". Pre-exam proctoring checks are now present inside the test player instead of external IIB windows.

  • Modernized UI: Modern web-based onboarding user interface across macOS and Windows.

IIBv1 Deprecation Timeline

  • IIB v1 Maintenance Mode: IIB v1 (1.14.x, 1.15.x, 1.16.x) is now in maintenance mode. All new features and non-critical enhancements will be made in IIB v2.

  • End of Support (April 2027): All sub-versions of IIB v1 (1.14.x, 1.15.x, 1.16.x) will be obsolete after the April 2027 release. Candidates using these IIB versions will be prompted to download and install the latest IIB version.

  • Upcoming Features in IIBv2
    • Accessibility: Screen reader support (JAWS, NVDA, Narrator for Windows; VoiceOver for Mac).
    • Localization: Multi-language translations.
    • Authentication: Google SSO candidate login integration.

Candidate upgrade to IIBv2.x.x journey

The institution submits a request to update their minimum and recommended version to the latest available IIB v2 version. The latest available IIBv2.x.x version can be seen here.
  1. Upgrade and Installation
    •  When the candidate launches the IIB version they currently have on their device, they will get an obsolete app version message as their IIB version will be less than the IIBv2 minimum version set for them. They will get an Obsolete app version message during the System check. The auto upgrade to the recommended version on this page will fail with an error.

    • Candidates need to click the download link shown there to download the relevant IIB installer according to their device. The link automatically detects the operating system (macOS or Windows) and processor (Intel/x86 vs. Apple Silicon/Windows ARM) to download the relevant installer.

    • If auto-detection of dev using the download link fails, candidates are shown an instruction page explaining how to identify their processor and select and download the correct installer.
