Psychometrics Dashboard - Layout and Behaviour

  • Updated

The Psychometrics dashboard contains the following major sections:

  • Header and test metadata

  • Test Submissions

  • Test Score

  • Test Reliability

  • Engagement and Completion

  • Test Taker Performance

  • Facility and Discrimination

  • Question Type Performance

  • Metrics Data Table

Shared UI behaviour across charts

  • Legend: Charts with multiple series include a legend.

  • Hover: Hovering over a point shows a tooltip with values for that position.

  • Highlight: Hovering over a legend key highlights that series and fades the others.

  • Show / hide: Clicking a legend key temporarily hides or restores a series.

  • Zoom: Mouse scroll inside the chart zooms in and out.

  • Scrolling: When too many values are present, charts show horizontal or vertical scrolling.

Most values shown in charts and summary cards are rounded to 2 decimal places. The values in the data table are not rounded, where applicable.

Header

The header helps users confirm which test they are viewing and when the psychometric data was calculated.

  • Test title: The name of the test as configured in Inspera Assessment. Use this to confirm that you are reviewing the correct assessment.

  • Test ID: The unique system identifier for the test. This can be used when communicating with administrators or support about a specific test.

  • Subtitle: A summary line showing when the psychometric metrics were calculated and how many submitted test takers were included out of the total enrolled population.

  • Info tooltip: A contextual details panel that shows test name and ID, test start and end time, and the item bank and question set used to create the test. This helps users verify the source content behind the report.

  • Download PDF: An action that exports the visual dashboard to a PDF file for sharing, review, or offline documentation.

Test Submissions

This section summarises who enrolled and who submitted.

  • Enrolled: the total number of test takers who were enrolled or assigned to the test. This is the denominator used to understand overall participation.

  • Submitted: the number of unique test takers who submitted the test and whose submissions were included in the CTT calculation. This is the population used for most dashboard metrics.

Test Score

This section summarises score outcomes.

  • Highest score: the highest total score obtained by any submitted test taker included in the calculation.

  • Lowest score: the lowest total score obtained by any submitted test taker included in the calculation.

  • Mean score: the arithmetic mean of submitted test takers’ total scores. It gives a central view of cohort performance.
  • Maximum score: the sum of interaction maximum scores from item-level stats — the theoretical maximum score a test taker could achieve on the test.

Test Reliability

This section shows internal consistency of the assessment.

  • Cronbach’s Alpha: an internal consistency measure showing how closely the questions perform together as a test. Higher values usually indicate that items are measuring a more consistent construct, but values must be interpreted alongside test purpose, number of questions, and question diversity.

Higher values generally indicate more consistent performance across the test, though interpretation should always consider test design and context.

Engagement and Completion

Screenshot 2026-08-04 115938.png

This section helps users understand how far test takers progressed and whether questions were reached, answered, or omitted.

Chart type: stacked bar and line combination chart.

  • X-axis: question order : the sequence in which questions appear in the Question Set used to create the test. It helps users identify where engagement changes across the assessment.

  • Unexposed: the number of test takers who never reached the question during the test attempt. High values may indicate time pressure, navigation behaviour, or early exits.

  • Exposed: the number of test takers who saw the question. This indicates how many submitted test takers had an opportunity to answer it.

  • Answered: the number of test takers who provided a response to the question. This helps distinguish viewed questions from completed questions.

  • Omitted: the number of test takers who saw the question but did not provide an answer. High omission may suggest difficulty, ambiguity, time pressure, or intentional skipping.

Default visible range: up to 10 x-axis values at a time before horizontal scrolling/zoom-out is needed.

Test Taker Performance

Screenshot 2026-08-04 121038.png

This section shows cohort score spread and score frequency.

Component 1: Box chart

  • Minimum: the lowest total score in the submitted cohort.

  • Q1: the first quartile, meaning 25% of submitted test takers scored at or below this value.

  • Median: the middle score of the submitted cohort, meaning 50% of submitted test takers scored at or below this value.

  • Q3: the third quartile, meaning 75% of submitted test takers scored at or below this value.

  • Maximum: the highest total score in the submitted cohort.

Component 2: Score frequency chart

  • X-axis: count of test takers per score bucket - shows how many submitted test takers fall within each score interval.

  • Y-axis: score intervals derived - groups total scores into ranges so users can see the distribution of performance across the cohort.

Interval rule: the dashboard chooses the smallest interval size from {2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100} such that the number of buckets does not exceed 10. Labels are then generated from 0 up to the achieved maximum score. For example,

  • If the maximum score is 28, the interval size is 5, producing buckets such as 0–4, 5–9, 10–14, 15–19, 20–24, 25–28.

  • If the maximum score is 80, the interval size is 10, producing buckets such as 0–9, 10–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, 70–80.

Facility and Discrimination

This section helps users evaluate how easy questions were and how well they differentiated between stronger and weaker test takers.

Question-level fields

  • Facility: the proportion of available marks achieved for a question, used as an indication of question difficulty. Higher values generally indicate easier questions; lower values generally indicate harder questions.

  • Discrimination: a measure of how well each question differentiates between higher-performing and lower-performing test takers. Higher positive values are generally preferable.

Interaction-level fields

  • Interaction order: formed by joining QuestionNumber, an underscore, and InteractionOrder, for example 3_1. This identifies a specific interaction within a question, especially where a question contains more than one scorable interaction.

  • Facility: the proportion of available marks achieved for a specific interaction. It helps identify whether a particular part of a question was easy or difficult.

  • Discrimination: a measure of how well a specific interaction separates higher-performing from lower-performing test takers.

Interpretation guidance

  • Facility indicates how easy an item was. Higher values generally mean easier questions.

  • Discrimination indicates how well the item separates higher-performing from lower-performing test takers.

  • Low or negative discrimination can indicate a problematic question, unclear wording, flawed keying, or a mismatch between the item and the overall construct.

Scrolling rule: in bar-chart mode, up to 10 x-axis values are shown before scrolling/zoom is required.

Question Type Performance

This section compares performance across question types used in the test.

View options:

  • Mean Facility - (default)

  • Mean Score

Fields

  • Question Type: the type of question used in the test, transformed into a readable label for display.

  • Mean Facility: the average facility value for all questions of that type. It indicates the relative ease or difficulty of a question type across the test.

  • Mean Score: the average score achieved for questions of that type, used to compare scoring performance across question formats.

This section includes both a chart and a supporting table.

Metrics Data Table

This section exposes the raw data behind the visualisations and supports export.

  • Interaction ID: shown where available from the underlying source mapping - the unique identifier for the specific scorable interaction.

  • Discrimination: the corrected discrimination value for the interaction, showing how well that interaction differentiates between stronger and weaker test takers.

  • Facility: the proportion of available marks achieved for the interaction, used as an indicator of interaction-level difficulty.

Test Takers tab fields

  • Test Taker ID: the unique system identifier for an individual submitted test taker. It is used to distinguish test taker records without relying on display names.

  • Total Score: the total score achieved by the test taker across the test. This value supports cohort distribution analysis and individual-level export review.

Unlike the charts, the Metrics Data Table preserves raw numeric precision where relevant. It is intended for downstream analysis and export.
