This article answers common questions about Inspera Docs
- Inspera Docs require an additional licence. Contact your Account Manager for more information and pricing.
- JPEG, JPG and PNG
- The key requirement is that you test with the type of paper, printer, scanner that you will be using. We recommend a minimum 200 dpi scanner and scanning in black and white, but this is to maximise the likelihood of successful code readings and the quality and readability for the grader. Scans with lower quality and colours will not be blocked and internal testing has given good results also with scan apps on mobile devices. The key is that you test and find setups and processes that meet the quality required by your institution
- Each file can be up to 10 MB
- You can upload up to 1,000 files in one batch. If you wish to upload more you will need to divide them across multiple upload batches
- We have set a limit on 10 simultaneous batches, but contact Service Desk if you need to upload more than this at the same time
- Two phases are involved; Upload and Processing (OCR & matching), and factors such as internet upload speed and file size affect the total time. Assuming 1000 files, each 2MB and a 50–100 Mbps connection, upload and processing can be expected to take about 10-15 minutes.
- When the sheets are uploaded, processing begins. A focused region of the sheet is cropped (the top right corner) and passed to AWS Textract (Amazon's managed document analysis service) to perform OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to read the handwritten text from the scanned pages.
- If all sheets for one question (same question code) contain page number information, then they are ordered according to page number. If page number does not exist/cannot be read for all sheets then the upload order is maintained
- If the Candidate has not written page number, and there is only one page for the given Question code, then Inspera automatically set page number to 01
- No, page number is not required. Sheets without/with duplicate Page number can be submitted to the Candidate submission
- You might find a sheet in the Error tab for two reasons
- Reading error: the question code could not be read and must be updated manually
- Invalid code: the question code was read, but it was not an expected question code on your tenant. The sheet can therefore not be matched to a candidate and question
- The question codes from tests that are more than two years old and that have been graded are made available for reuse. It is therefore not possible to upload a sheet to an old test using the same question code. If you need to upload a sheet to an old test we recommend that you do it manually via Monitor. See Manually Upload or Delete Inspera Docs sheets
- Yes. If the questions are authored in Inspera and Inspera Docs is enabled on the test, the question codes are generated for the questions. Consider using the question type Oral / Sketch, as this does not require any input into Inspera by the candidate. The question codes can be downloaded and shared with the candidates in the exam hall together with the Inspera Docs sheets (learn how to find the candidates question codes here). The candidates answer on the allocated sheets and fill out the question codes. Scan and upload the sheets to Inspera, and the sheets are made available for marking.
