This feature is available for Planner, Administrator, Chief Invigilator, and Invigilator.
During an ongoing test, you have the ability to monitor candidates in the Monitor module and make certain adjustments.
This article explains how to track candidate progress using the Monitor module, how to access the monitor for single or multiple tests, interpret status warnings, and manage actions like adding extra time or sending messages.
Open the test in the Monitor module
There are different ways to list the candidates to be monitored in Inspera.
- Go to Monitor.
-
Search for the test you wish to monitor. This will display candidates for that specific test only.
It is also possible to open the monitoring mode for an individual test:
- Go to Deliver.
- Search for and select the test.
- Click on the wheel icon (Monitor) in the menu bar on the top right.
Open Monitor for multiple tests
Especially within universities and colleges, it is common for invigilators to monitor multiple tests simultaneously. To see all candidates currently taking an exam:
- Go to Monitor.
- Filter for tests that are Active
A brief overview of available options
Click on a candidate to open a menu. Different options are available depending on your role and the stage the candidate is in. For example, you can:
- Register attendance
- Add extra time (planned or triggered by an incident)
- Send message
- Enable spell checker
Please note that if you have the role of Invigilator, you do not have authorization to add extra time, but a person with the role of Planner (Administrator) can do so. An Invigilator should primarily observe candidates in Monitor mode and not initiate administrative actions.
A brief overview of the columns
The columns that are particularly important to follow in Monitor mode are Warning and Submission saved.
- The warnings indicate if candidates are experiencing any issues, such as internet connection problems.
- Submission saved shows when a response was last saved to the cloud. If several minutes have passed since the last save, you should investigate the cause.
If the test is to be graded anonymously, the candidate's ID will be displayed in the first column. This ID number may come from external sources or be assigned when the candidate starts the test. If the test is not graded anonymously, you will see the candidate's name in the ID column in Monitor.

Video tutorial
The video below shows you how to monitor during ongoing tests. Most of the information provided in the video also applies to invigilators.
Internet access is technically only required at the start of the test and upon submission. In between these points, the candidate can work in Inspera even if the computer is not connected to the internet.
