Introduction
Question assignment allows you to individually assign questions within a test to specific graders. This function creates a more flexible way to let graders divide their workflow, for example, assigning all essays to a certain grader.

Question Assignment In this video, Bianca goes over how to use the Question Assignment tool within the Grading module. |
How to enable Question Assignment
This option is available for Planners.
- Within the Grading workflow menu, click Shared marking.
- Click Enable question assignment.
Under Grader permissions, the first pull-down menu gives you the option to decide the types of permissions you are going to give your graders:
- Graders can view and mark all questions
- Graders can view all questions, but only mark own questions
- Grader can only view and mark own questions
Second, you have the option to pick who has control over the grading assignment:
- Only planners can assign questions
- Graders can assign and re-assign questions
The Grader permission can also be adjusted per committee in the committee workflow setting.
Questions page layout
- In the Planner Workspace, click Questions.
- The Questions page will open and you will be presented with the following information:
- Number: This is the number of the question
- Question name: This is the question's name
- Question type: This is the type of question (multiple choice, essay, etc.)
- Assignee: This is who the question is to be assigned to
- Maximum marks: This is the maximum marks on the question
- Click the
icon to add filters, and the
icon to explore options.
How to assign questions
The Question Assignment feature will open in a new page called Settings for you to work out of. Below, we will go over how to navigate the Settings page, how to assign a grader, and how to assign a section.
- In the Questions workspace, click the options icon and select Edit assignee. This will open the Settings page.
- To assign more graders, click on the Unassigned box by your desired questions. From the dropdown, select your grader(s).
- To assign a section, click on the Unassigned box by Section.
- Your question assignments will not take effect until you select the blue prompt to Update. If for any reason you need to leave the Settings page before updating, the settings page will save your assignees as a draft.
Grader markup view
The grader markup view depends on the Grader permissions set in the test settings.
- Graders can view and mark all questions
- Graders can view all questions, but only mark own questions
- Grader can only view and mark own questions
1. Graders can view and mark all questions
The Marking tool will appear normal. You have permission to view and grade all questions.
2. Graders can view all questions, but only mark own questions
You can see within the right-side marking panel, the questions that are assigned to you. Questions that are not assigned to you will prompt you with insufficient permissions.
3. Grader can only view and mark own questions
The marking tool will appear normal. You can only see and mark the questions assigned to you, so the question numbering scheme may be segmented.
Question assignment with Confirmation of marks and grades
If One grader can confirm is selected (in Deliver > Test dashboard > Options > Grading workflow > Confirmation of marks and grades), then when one grader confirms their marking, they will confirm on behalf of all graders, no matter if those graders have marked their questions.
A warning will pop up confirming if the grader is ready to confirm marks and grades on behalf of everyone. A Planner contributor can reopen marking in Marking 2.0 Grade > Options >Workflow for > Reopen for marking.
Question assignment with Committees
If One grader can confirm is selected (in Deliver > Test dashboard > Options > Grading workflow > Confirmation of marks and grades) then graders can share their results, but once all graders have shared their results, one grader can confirm on behalf of all graders.
A warning will pop up confirming if the grader is ready to confirm marks and grades on behalf of everyone. A Planner contributor can reopen marking in Marking 2.0 Grade > Options >Workflow for > Reopen for marking.
