Inspera Assessment has now implemented the FS sequence number (løpenummer) as the unique identifier for users transferred from FS. This should generally not affect user administration in Inspera, but in some cases, manual correction may be necessary.
This article covers the import of admin users from FS BAS/Sebra:
FS BAS/Sebra
This article describes how we match users between Inspera and FS (BAS + Exam API):
Matching of Users from FS
So what does this mean for you?
With FS BAS integration
The sequence number is added automatically when users are created based on the integration. This means that if a user in Inspera is created during the nightly synchronization with FS BAS, the sequence number will be added automatically.
All users in FS BAS should have had their sequence numbers updated in Inspera automatically.
Feide IDs for users in FS BAS will be updated automatically in Inspera.
This is the only change beyond the introduction of the sequence number. This means that email addresses or other information will not be updated automatically. User status will be updated as usual.
FS Exam API (applies to everyone, regardless of FS BAS integration)
When new graders (sensors) are transferred from FS, they will be created with the FS sequence number in Inspera. Existing grader users will not be automatically updated with the FS sequence number.
Email addresses are not updated automatically in Inspera.
Tips
It is possible to add the sequence number manually in Inspera User Administration. This can be useful in many cases, for example, if an error message is received during synchronization for one of the graders being transferred.
If you create users in Inspera manually, it is recommended that you also add the FS sequence number at the same time.
Since email addresses are not updated automatically from FS, it is still possible for duplicate users to be created in cases where the sequence number has not been added in Inspera. This happens because we still match on email address, and if this has been changed in FS, a match will no longer be found in Inspera. Previously, the workaround for this was to swap the email addresses of the original user and the duplicate user, and then deactivate the duplicate user. We are now changing our recommendations for this.
If a duplicate user is created, the following steps can resolve it:
- Open the duplicate user in Inspera User Administration
- Remove the FS sequence number from this user (use Ctrl-X so it is ready for the next step)
- Open the original user in Inspera User Administration and paste the FS sequence number into this user
- Delete the duplicate user in Inspera
- Update the email address on the original user
- Synchronize the test with FS again to ensure the correct user is added to the test
