Enable non-anonymous candidates for the test

  • Updated

By default, candidates in Inspera Assessment are anonymous during the test, meaning their names are not visible. However, in certain cases, you can choose to make candidates non-anonymous, allowing their real names to be seen by Planners, Invigilators, and Graders throughout the test.

This article explains how anonymization works, details how to enable non-anonymous candidates in test settings, and highlights important notes and limitations regarding this feature.

This feature requires activation. Please contact the Service Desk to activate it for your Inspera Assessment tenancy.

Understanding candidate anonymization

How anonymization works depends on your institution's Inspera Assessment setup. The feature requires either an integration with a student information system (like FS or PCG) or that you use a Test Code for candidates to sign up. Additionally, your candidates must use a Single Sign-On (SSO) login (e.g., Google, Feide, Microsoft) to access Inspera Assessment. If these prerequisites are not met, the non-anonymous option will not be available on the test.

Enable non-anonymous candidates in test settings

To allow candidates' real names to be visible during the test:

  1. Create a test or open an existing one.
  2. In the Test setup, navigate to general settings.
  3. Select Non-anonymous.

Once enabled:

  • First name and last name are synchronized from your student information system or from the information available from the SSO provider.
  • Planners, Invigilators, and Graders can see the candidates' real names during the entire process of the test.
  • For FS tests, the first name and last name are imported from FS along with the candidate ID.
  • If using a test code, a student's name will appear in the system after the student has entered the test code.
  • In the candidate list, you will see the candidates' names, often with their candidate ID in brackets.

Important notes and limitations

  • Does not apply to: This feature does not apply to one-time candidates or permanent student users.
  • Default anonymity: Candidates who use SSO to sign in and then sign up for tests with a test code will also be anonymous by default.
  • Inability to enable later: If the candidate's name is provided by the SSO, it is not possible to enable this setting later. In such cases, candidates will remain anonymous until the grading is completed. After the grading is confirmed, you can then choose to show the real names of the candidate if that option is enabled on your account.
