Inspera Assessment supports multiple language versions for each question and question sets, allowing you to create and present content in candidates' own languages.
This article explains key consideration before starting translating question sets, and provides step-by-step instructions on how to translate an entire Question Set.
Key considerations for translation
To maintain consistency across different language versions of a Question Set, a crucial rule applies: You must ensure a Question Set in its original language is 100% complete before translating it into any additional languages.
- The implication: After a Question Set has been translated, you can no longer add or remove interaction elements (such as text entry fields or multiple choice options) from the questions. This ensures the question's formal structure remains identical across all language versions.
- Content to translate: You should only translate the textual content. Marks, illustrations, and interaction types will remain the same.
- PDF Panels: If a PDF panel has been added to a question, you must add it to all language versions, even if the PDF file is the same.
Instructions
Translating a Question Set involves activating new language versions and then translating each question within that set.
Add new languages

In the question set's edit mode, locate and click the language settings at the top left of the page.

Click Add Language, and select your desired language from the window. Click Save.

The language versions currently selected for the question set will be visible as tabs.

After a new language version is activated, a copy of all the questions will be created, with the original text. These questions will then need to be translated.
If a question in the question set is not yet translated, it will be marked Not translated in the Purple line view.
Translate individual questions
- Select the question you want to translate.

Click on the cogwheel icon, visible over the selected question, to add languages on the individual question.
Example: Swedish language has been added to the Question Set. However, translations are missing at the individual question level for Questions 2 and 3. As a result, these questions are highlighted with a purple line as in the image, indicating missing translations for the selected language, Swedish.
- In the question's edit mode, translate the question text, prompt, and all answer alternatives.
- Only text should be translated. Marks, illustration and interaction should be the same across the language versions.
- When the translation is done, click Save, and navigate to the next question that needs translation.

- In the question set's edit mode, locate the language settings at the top center of the page.

When the original version of the question set is complete, click on the Language Settings button (cogwheel icon) to change language settings.

Select the language you want the question set to be translated into.
- The language versions currently selected for the question set will be visible as tabs.

As long as a question in the question set is not yet translated, it will be marked Not translated in the view.
- Click the question you want to translate.
