Available for Grader and Planner.
Explanations of grades in Inspera Assessment allow Graders to provide written feedback that clarifies a candidate's grade, which can then be sent to the student. This process primarily occurs after the test has been completed and graded.
This article provides an overview of what explanations of grades are and outlines the two distinct workflows supported by Inspera Assessment for managing them.
What are explanations of grades?
An explanation of a grade is a text-based clarification provided by Graders within the Grading tool, detailing the rationale behind a candidate's awarded mark. This explanation can then be delivered to the student, providing them with valuable feedback and context regarding their performance.
Two workflows for explanations of grades
Inspera Assessment supports two main workflows for managing explanations of grades.
Not Administrated Explanations (basic functionality)
This workflow is not configured by the Planner for the test.
Graders have the autonomy to choose which candidates they write explanations for and can publish these explanations themselves directly to candidates.
(For more information about the basic functionality for explanations of grades, refer to the Explanation of grades article.)
Administration of Explanations
This functionality must be activated by the institution and then enabled by the Planner for a specific test (under Options > Explanation of Grades in the test settings). This activation and setup typically occur before the test begins.
When activated, the process of explanations is followed up and administered by the Planner of the test.
Planners can administer the following:
- Which candidates is going to have explanation. This can be selected for all candidates or for individual candidates.
- Allow the grader to send explanations directly to candidates. If this is selected, the Grader can choose to send a explanation when it is ready.
- Both the Planner and the Grader can send explanations marked Ready to the candidates.
- Set a time limit for explanations. One deadline for all explanations is set.
