How to add custom made GeoGebra files as a resource

  • Updated

You can add custom made GeoGebra files (GGB files) as resources directly to your Question Sets. This enables you to provide candidates with access to a full GeoGebra application environment, complete with predefined values or specific perspectives.

This article explains how to add a custom-made GeoGebra file as a resource, outlines the potential security risks associated with this method, and describes the candidate experience when using it.

How to add the custom made GeoGebra file

  1. Create a GeoGebra file (.ggb-file) in the GeoGebra Classic App on your device or in one of the applications at www.geogebra.org.
    • Tip: When you create a .ggb-file, you can customize which perspectives or tools the candidates can use.
    • Example: If you want your candidates to use only the 3D Calculator, create a file with just this perspective. You can also add text or information for the candidates directly into the file.
  2. Save the .ggb-file in your user profile at geogebra.org. You must have an account to save files.

The image below shows two ways to save your file at geogebra.org.

  3. Go to Resources at your user profile at geogebra.org, and open the .ggb-file by clicking Open in App.

  4. Copy the URL from your .ggb-file.

  5. Add the resource to the Question Set:
    1. Go to the Question Set where you want to add the resource.
    2. Click Show resources in the bottom right corner.
    3. Click Add resource and select URL from the dropdown menu.
    4. Paste the copied URL of the .ggb-file into the URL field.

  6. Give the resource a name, and click Save.

Important security and saving notes

  • Security Risk: By adding a custom-made GeoGebra file from geogebra.org as a resource, candidates may be able to access local files on their devices through the GeoGebra application's main menu and the Insert Image button on its toolbar. This may be a security risk, especially when using Safe Exam Browser (SEB).
  • Work Not Saved: Any work candidates do within a GeoGebra resource will not be saved and cannot be submitted along with their test submission. The grader will not see work done in the resource.

Candidate experience

  • Candidates will find the GeoGebra resource(s) listed at the bottom of the test interface, under the navigation bar.

  • When candidates open a resource in Safe Exam Browser (SEB), it appears in a separate window on the right side of the test.
  • Candidates can only have one resource open at a time; clicking another resource will automatically close the current one.
  • It is possible to get back to the last resource by clicking the minimize button.
  • Any work a candidate does within the GeoGebra resource will not be saved and will disappear if they close the resource.
  • The image below shows how a GeoGebra resource can look like. This is an example of the Probability module where the Chi-Squared distribution is selected in advance.
