Adding predefined feedback to a question

  • Updated

This is available for Authors.

Authors can define predefined feedback for questions or specific alternatives in Inspera Assessment. This allows for automated feedback delivery to candidates.

This article explains how to add predefined feedback per question, alternative, and response outcome. It also covers the candidate experience.

This feature requires activation. Please contact the Service Desk to activate it for your Inspera Assessment tenancy.

Predefined feedback

You can add predefined feedback at different levels depending on the question type:

Important to note:

  • Predefined feedback cannot be changed after the test is activated. If there are any issues with a question, we suggest to use the grading tool's annotation feature to provide feedback to the candidates.
  • Feedback per question is available for all question types except Oral / Sketch

Remember to preview: To ensure your predefined feedback presents as intended for candidates, always use the preview function. Go to "Preview eye-open.png" in the question editor and select "Check Answer." This way you can simulate a candidate's experience and verify how the feedback displays for both per-alternative and per-question feedback.

How to add feedback per question

Adding feedback at the question level is a simpler process compared to per-alternative feedback, as it applies generally to the entire question. Simply add the feedback in the general options side panel of the question under Feedback. You can expand the text box by clickcking and draging the marked area at the bottom right of the box.

Question options: Feedback

How to add feedback per alternative

Predefined feedback can be added to all alternative types, including text, image, or sound alternatives, in question types such as Multiple choice, Multiple response, Inline choice and True/False.

  1. Click on the interaction within the question.
  2. Under the Alternatives section click on Add feedback.
  3. Write your feedback in the provided text area.

Examples:

  • Predefined feedback for multiple response question type
  • Predefined feedback for multiple response question type, when Text is selected as alternative

How to add feedback for response outcomes

This type of feedback is used for more complex question types like Numerical Simulation and Symbolic Math. It allows authors to tailor feedback based on a candidate's response outcome (e.g., correct, incorrect, within a tolerance range). For a complete guide on this feature, refer to the How to set response feedback for Numerical simulation and Symbolic math questions article.

Candidate experience

Once a test is closed, candidates can access predefined feedback by navigating to Archive and selecting See more details for the relevant test.

Candidates will see the feedback immediately after submission if Instant post delivery access is enabled in the test settings.

The type of feedback displayed depends on the Planner's settings:

  • If Show feedback for all alternatives is enabled, candidates will see feedback for every alternative in a question.
  • If this option is disabled, candidates will only see feedback for the alternative they chose.
