Explanation of grades in test settings

  • Updated

This is available for Planners.

When setting up an Inspera Assessment test, you can configure settings related to the administration of explanations of grades.

This article describes the specific options available for enabling the administration of explanations of grades, including requesting explanations and allowing graders to send explanations directly to candidates.

Administration of explanations

The administration of explanations extends the visibility and control over grade explanations, allowing Planners to manage and track the process. These settings can be changed at any time during the grading process, though it's recommended to confirm initial settings.

This feature requires activation. Please contact the Service Desk to activate it for your Inspera Assessment tenancy.

Options for administration of explanations

There are three options you can choose from when you click on Enable administration of Explanations within the test settings:

  • If this option is selected, the status for all candidates under the Explanation of Grades column in Monitor will be updated to Requested. You will be asked to confirm this request. This setting can be changed at any time, but note that by deactivating it, you would have to manually mark or reset each candidate's status to Not requested.
  • The purpose of this setting is to give the planner control over when explanations are sent. If this is left unchecked, the Planner sends the explanations on behalf of the Graders. This setting can be changed at any time.
  • You can set a deadline for when the Grader should be finished with the explanation. This deadline applies to all explanations in the test and appears for the grader on the candidate's result page. The deadline currently does not include any automatic notification when it expires, but Graders will be notified automatically by email when a deadline changes.

Requesting and Canceling Explanations

You can request or cancel explanations for candidates by opening the candidate list, clicking on a candidate, and choosing from the available actions. This is also how a Planner sends explanations if a Grader is not allowed to do so.

  • A Planner will see widgets for the explanation status of the candidates on the test front page:

You can also request an explanation from the candidate list in Monitor.

  • When a candidate has requested an explanation, it will be displayed in the Grade module.

Important notes for Planners

  • If you do not enable Explanation of grades on a test, Graders will still be able to send explanations of grades directly to candidates. This Administration of explanations functionality is specifically used to request and monitor progress of explanations to candidates, providing central oversight.
  • The Grader must mark the explanation as Ready before the planner can send it. Draft explanations cannot be sent.
  • The test must have Graded status before any explanations can be sent. All Graders and committees must have confirmed final grading.
  • If the Grader is allowed to send explanations, the Planner can still send them on behalf of the Grader.
