Aivailable for Planners.
In Inspera Assessment, explanations of grades can be configured for a test, allowing Planners to manage and track the process.
This article explains how to enable administered explanations, and details the three key configuration options available to planners.
This feature requires activation. Please contact the Service Desk to activate it for your Inspera Assessment tenancy.
Configuration choices for Planners
-
Planners can enable administered explanations for a test under Options > Explanation of Grades in the test settings.
-
After enabling administered explanations, a Planner will have the following three options for configuring the workflow.
These settings can be changed at any time during the grading process, although it is recommended to keep the initial settings.
- If this option is selected, the status for all candidates under the Explanation of Grades column in Monitor will be updated to Requested. The planner will be prompted to confirm this request. The setting can be changed at any time, but by deactivating it, the planner will have to manually mark or reset each candidate to Not requested.
- This setting gives the planner control over when explanations are sent. If it is left unchecked, the planner will be the one who sends the explanations on behalf of the graders.
- A planner can set a deadline for when the grader should be finished with the explanation. This deadline applies to all explanations in the test and will appear for the grader on the candidate's result page. The deadline can be changed at any time and serves as a reminder for the grader, but it does not have any impact on other settings in the test.
Important note
Even if you do not enable Administered explanations for a test, graders will still be able to write and send explanations of grades directly to candidates. The purpose of the administered feature is to provide you, the Planner, with a system to formally request and monitor the progress of those explanations.

There is no way to assign a specific grader to write an explanation for a particular candidate. You can only request an explanation generally, and any grader on the committee can then take on the task.
