Available for Planners with extended access and Template administrators.
Managing and sharing test templates in Inspera Assessment allows you to quickly create new tests with pre-defined settings. You can create, edit, and share templates. The purpose of templates is to make test creation faster. The new test will automatically include all the settings you saved in the template.
This article explains who can manage and share templates, and it details how to create and edit a template, describes the different settings you can save in a template, and how to share templates with other Planners.
Create a template
You create a template from a test you have already made. Open an existing test or create a new one in the Deliver module. Then, click Save as Template in the top right corner.
Edit a template
After you have created the template you will get the option to edit the template.
To edit a template, find the Edit Template action in the dropdown menu on the Create button.
Excluded Settings
Tenants with Inspera Originality activated for their accounts can define enable Translations when configuring the originality report. This setting is not part of a template. This means this setting is not visible on a template and any test created from a template will have this setting off by default. To learn more about the different settings Inspera Originality supports in IA, please check this page.
Template settings
When you edit a template, you have the following settings options (including template name and description):
-
Default sync
You can link templates to external systems. When a Planner creates a new test from the template, a prompt automatically appears, asking them to select a test from the external system to sync with.
You can change the Default sync setting when you edit the template. Any information already set in the template, like candidates or start time, is automatically replaced with information from the external system.
-
Questions and settings
These settings define what happens to a question set when someone creates a new test from a template.
In the image below we have used a question set named "Automatically marked"
- Include. Do not allow editing questions and settings: The new test uses the exact same question set from the template. The Planner cannot edit most test settings, but they can change the test title, start and end times, and add contributors and candidates.
- Include. Allow editing questions and settings: The new test uses the same question set from the template. The planner can edit all test settings and the questions in the question set.
- Duplicate. Allows editing: The system automatically makes a copy of the question set from the template. The Planner can edit all settings and questions in the new copy.
- Leave empty - Planners required to create or add questions: The new test does not include a question set. The planner must add or create one.
-
Passwords
For security, you can decide how the new test handles passwords from the template.
- Generate new (recommended): The system automatically creates new, unique passwords when a new test is made from the template.
- Include from template: The new test uses the same passwords from the template.
-
Default planner workflow
Templates can also set the workflow for new tests.
- Author mode: The Planner can create new questions during the second step of the test creation process. They can add new questions or add an existing question set and edit its contents. This requires the Planner to also have the Author role.
- Standard mode: All settings are available for the Planner to use.
- Quick mode: This hides most of the test settings because the template has already defined them. The only settings available are the test name, start and end times, duration, question set, and candidate list.
-
Contributors
You can also save contributor roles in templates, such as Authors, Invigilators, Planners, and Graders. The template creator is automatically added as a Planner for any new tests. If new Graders are synced from an external system, they will automatically replace any Graders in the template.
Share template
Templates are private by default. Only you and other Users with extended access can see them.
- When a User with extended access shares a template, all regular Planners on the account can see it.
-
When a Template administrator shares a template, all regular Planners in the same Access Group as the creator can see it.
These Planners are then allowed to create new tests from shared templates, but they cannot edit or archive them.
