Inline Gap Match is a question type where candidates answer by dragging and dropping alternatives (tokens), such as plain text, images, rich text, or math, into predefined drop areas (gaps) directly within a text.

This article explains the layout and two-level setup of Inline Gap Match questions, details main setup options and individual gap configurations, and provides instructions on how to add gaps and tokens.

Note:

  • If using an iPad when answering an Inline gap match question then press the object for a little while before it lifts and follows to where you want to drag it. It does not work to just drag the object, you need to press it for a little while first.
  • For tablet devices, we recommend disabling the option to rotate the screen during tests with this question type. Rotating between horizontal and vertical views on a tablet device can cause the screen to freeze.

    3. This allows you to add incorrect answers - distractors. For each wrong answer you add, a new drag element (token) box appears. Thus, this element will not have a match in the text. When creating a distractor, the identifier needs to be a string otherwise it will create a validation error.
