Originality and Similarity reports

This is available for Planners and Graders.

An Originality report helps to identify whether or not a candidate's submission provides original content. Inspera offers Inspera Originality that you can use in your tests.

A Similarity report helps to identify whether or not a candidate's submission contains duplicate content. Inspera has multiple similarity check providers that you can use in your tests. In this article, we will cover the providers Ouriginal, previously called Urkund, and TurnItIn.

Note: This feature requires activation, and a separate agreement with a provider of similarity detection reports (usually Ouriginal, or Turnitin).

Who can access the Report

There are three different configurations regarding who can access and originality/similarity reports and where. If you want to change the acess your Markers have to the report, please reach out to our Support Desk. Planners always have access to the report.

  • Markers have full access: this is the default setting. With this setting both Markers and Planners have access to the report. They will have access both in the Overview and Marking sections.
  • Only Planners have access: with this setting, the Graders will not be able to have access to the report and will have to Mark the question without knowing if the work is original or not. Planners will be the ones analysing the reports.
  • Markers have access but only in the Overview section: Both have access to the report but only in the Overview section. This way, the Markers will not be biased when Marking the questions but can still be responsible for analysing the reports.

Information:

  • Mac users: if prevent cross-site tracking in Safari is enabled, the error message "missing URL to report" appears and the report is not visible. This feature needs to be disabled in order to view similarity reports in Safari.
  • It takes approximately 30 minutes to generate a report after a request.
  • Only certain question types will be sent to the detection provider; those are Essay questions and File upload questions.
  • The accepted file formats for file uploads are determined by the detection provider.
  • Some customers have an extra layer of security on their account with the provider, and a separate login may be required to view the reports. Please contact the provider to get more details.
  • Similarity/Originality checks are an administrative task for some, and if that is true for you, we have an additional setting that will hide the reports from the graders. Contact us to get this changed if required.
  • Note that this feature requires activation and is subject to a setup fee. A separate agreement with a similarity detection provider (Ouriginal, or Turnitin) is required. No separate agreement is needed for Inspera Originality.
