How to pause a candidate's test

  • Updated

This is available for Planners and Chief Invigilators.

The pause feature allows Planners and Chief Invigilators to temporarily disable a candidate from editing their submission during a live test. This article will show you how to pause and resume candidate exams and explain important information and the candidate's experience.

Important information

  • Pause is not compatible with Live Proctoring. For more information please see the Inspera Proctoring and Monitor actions article.
  • A candidate's exam can only be paused if:
    • The candidate has already started the test.
    • The test's end time has not yet been reached.

How to pause candidate test

  1. First go to the Monitor module and choose the candidate(s) by selecting the empty checkboxes by their ID.
  2. You can pause a candidate from either the action banner on the bottom of the page, or by clicking More on the candidate's row.
  3. Click Pause.
  4. In Monitor, the candidate Progress column is now updated to Paused.

How to resume candidate test

  1. To enable candidates to continue working on their submission, select candidate(s) and press Resume.
  2. The Candidate Interface then returns to regular editing mode.

Important to note:

  • If the pause lasts more than a minute, the elapsed time during pause is automatically added as Incident time (minutes and seconds). The paused time will stop at the nearest second.

  • If the pause lasts less than a minute, no incident time is added.

Candidate experience

When an Invigilator pauses the candidate's exam, the whole screen is disabled, informing the candidate that the test session has been paused. The candidate must be online for the pausing to take effect in the Assessment player.

  • Candidates can not navigate or edit their responses.
  • Candidates can see that their remaining time is paused.
  • Candidates can see their connection status.
