Introduction to IO Moodle Plugin

  • Updated

Inspera Originality (IO) offers a plugin to connect your Moodle account directly to your Inspera Originality account.

The IO Moodle plugin is not yet available in the Moodle Plugin Directory, in order to obtain it please reach out to your Account Manager.

What can you do with the Plugin?

The main purpose is for teachers to be able to generate and access the originality index and the originality report without leaving Moodle.

The teachers can configure all the settings pertinent to the report generation while setting up the assignment. Upon the student submissions, the reports will be generated and the teachers will be able to access them while checking the list of submissions.

It is also possible to define if and when a report should be shared with the students. When it is, the students will be able to access it, in view mode, when accessing their submission summary in Moodle.

How to install and use the Plugin?

For now the installation is done by uploading the zip file with the plugin into Moodle. In order to learn more about how to install it, please check out this page.

Before the plugin can be used by the teachers it should be configured by the system admin. This configuration includes connecting to the IO account as well as, optionally, defining default values for the different settings and which settings should be available to the teachers. In order to learn more about the configuration of the plugin, please check out this page.

After the plugin is configured, teachers will be able to configure their assignments so that IO reports are generated. After the reports are generated the teachers will be able to access them. For more information on how to use the plugin as a teacher, please check out this page.

When the teacher decides to share the report with the students, they will be able to access it as well. For more information on how to access the report as a student, please check out this page.

Is the plugin compatible with IIB

IIB is used when tests are created and taken in Inspera Assessment (IA). This plugin does not connect to IA, it directly connects to IO. As such, tests will only be taken inside Moodle, IIB does not play a role in this process.

Known limitations

At the moment, the plugin has the following limitations, which should be tackled in future releases:

  • the IO reports can only be configured in activities of the type assignment
  • Moodle provides two "Submission types": Online text and File submissions. In a group submission assignment, only File submissions will be sent for originality checking.
