How to use the drawing tool

  • Updated

This is available for Candidates.

Depending on whether the drawing is the main element for assessment, you might see the drawing tool as the main question to answer or as an option to add in addition to your main answer to provide a visual answer or clarification

While the drawing tool is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, we recommend familiarising yourself with it before your assessment. You can test out the drawing tool here.

Starting a drawing

When the drawing tool is available you will see this interaction:

  • To start drawing: When viewing the question, select the option to Start Drawing.

  • The Canvas Opens: The drawing canvas will open in an overlay, enlarging your drawing area. You will still be able to see the test header, which displays important information such as loss of internet connectivity.

  • To view the question: With the drawing canvas open, you will see the option to Show Question. Selecting this expands the question text, showing both the question and the drawing canvas simultaneously.

  • To return to the canvas view: Select Hide question. This collapses the question text, returning the overlay to its original state

Editing, viewing, or deleting a Drawing

Once a drawing is saved, options appear on the question page to manage your drawing.

  • View Drawing: Select Show drawing. The drawing expands, allowing you to preview it together with the question and your response

  • Edit Drawing: Select Edit Drawing. The canvas re-opens as you left it , allowing you to continue editing.

Tips

Depending on the type of assessment, some tips you might find useful:

  • Look at the help text below the toolbar. This provides useful information based on the tool you have selected

  • Create your own shapes by selecting the line (or arrow) option and click to start multiple points. You can later fine tune the location of each point
  • Arrows allow connecting shapes so your can more easily move elements together without having to re-connect the arrow to the shape
  • Group selection (keyboard shortcut: ctrl + G or cmd + G) to create your own shapes based on multiple elements
  • Duplicate (ctrl + D or cmd + D) to create an insert a copy of the selected element
  • Need more space? Move the canvas to continue your drawings. Remember to 'Show drawing' once you have Save & Closed to see a preview of what will be included in your submission
