Psychometrics Dashboard - Overview

Status: Fully operational

This is a guide to psychometrics at Inspera, provided in the form of a dashboard. This is a crucial first step in bringing comprehensive test-level analytics. It is designed specifically for educators, administrators, and analysts involved in creating, delivering, and evaluating assessments for Higher Education institution.

This dashboard was developed to:

  • Provide HE clients with access to key CTT-based test statistics and visualizations.
  • Gather essential feedback on the most valuable test statistic graphs and visualizations.
  • Prototype and refine test-level analytics features before integrating them directly into the Inspera platform.

Understanding the Visualisations and the Data

Click on the individual graphs to get a more detailed explanation.

1. Test Summary Metrics

This summary provides key statistical summaries of test performance, including student participation, score distribution, and reliability, offering a quick snapshot of the overall test results.

2. Student Response Trends

This graph breaks down student responses per question into exposed, answered, omitted, and unexposed categories. Use it to quickly assess student engagement and spot trends in how questions were attempted or skipped

3. Total Score Distribution

See how many students achieved each specific total score on the test. This graph highlights the overall performance distribution, showing the range from lowest to highest scores and which scores were most common.

4. Facility and Discrimination

See how difficult each question was versus how well it distinguished between high and low-scoring students on this scatter plot. It provides a visual summary of question performance, helping to spot items that might need review or are working effectively. The dashboard also provides separate graphs if you want to analyze question difficulty or differentiation trends individually.

5. Mean Score and Facility Distribution by Question Type

Analyze performance trends and the inherent difficulty across different question types.

6. Average Time Per Question

Evaluate the time allocation across the test by viewing the average duration students spent on every question. Use this to quickly spot questions that might be overly time-consuming or surprisingly quick to answer.

7. Question Metrics Table

Access a detailed breakdown of performance statistics and psychometric properties for every question in this comprehensive table. It summarizes key metrics like mean score, facility (item ease), discrimination, and student response counts (exposed, answered, omitted) all in one view.

Exporting the data

The dashboard allows users to export data in various formats for further analysis or reporting, including exporting the entire dashboard as a PDF or printable document, and individual visualizations like tables and graphs as CSV files, as detailed in the "Export the Complete Dashboard" and "Export a Table or Graph" functionalities.
