Administrators - Manage System Settings

Introduction

The Settings & Preferences menu allows educators to manage the system-wide availability and configuration of features. The menu divides the features into two categories, Originality Feature Configuration and Access & Permission Settings

1. Originality Feature Configuration

Define the system-wide availability and configuration of originality features.

Translation Similarity
Enable to check for similarity against sources in other languages. Users can specify up to 3 languages in total. The specified languages by the administrator become the default languages for the Translated Language Similarity analysis.
AI Prediction
Enable to check submissions for content potentially generated by artificial intelligence.
Important
The AI Prediction feature is currently available only for documents in English.
Metadata Analysis
Enable to check documents for metadata, which includes hidden information like authorship, document history, and file properties. This analysis can provide additional context about the document’s origin.
Contextual Similarity

Enable to examine sentences for contextual similarity in overall meaning and idea against matching sources. You can configure the contextual similarity threshold to define the percentage at which sentences are considered contextually similar. By default, the threshold can only be lowered to 50% to prevent broad matches and potentially inaccurate results.

Classification Thresholds

Configure similarity classification thresholds to define the percentage at which sentences are classified as exact match or possibly altered text.

  • The Exact Match and Possibly Altered Text classifications use a shared slider interface because they are interconnected.
  • Adjusting the maximum percentage for Possibly Altered Text will automatically adjust the minimum percentage for Exact Match. The minimum percentage for Possibly Altered Text can be adjusted independently without affecting Exact Match.

2. Access & Permission Settings

Define system-wide access and permissions settings.

Educator User Management Permissions
Define whether or not educators can create and add new student users to the system.

Pre-Check Submissions

Define whether or not student users can upload documents for pre-checking purposes. Pre-Check allows students to upload their documents and review them for potential originality issues before making a final submission.

Important
Pre-Check documents and their originality reports are accessible only to the student who uploaded them.
Archive Documents

Define whether or not received submissions should be stored in the institution’s internal repository of archived submissions.

Important
Pre-Check uploads are not stored by default and are only accessible to the student who uploaded them. Similarly, educator uploads are not stored by default and remain accessible only to the educator who uploaded them.
Content Access
Define whether or not other institutions using Inspera Originality can check their documents against your institution’s internal repository of archived submissions. All access requests are logged, and the administrator can revoke access at any time.

  • When Content Access is set to closed, other institutions using Inspera Originality are restricted from accessing the internal repository of archived submissions for student-collusion checking. Consequently, archived submissions from Institution A cannot be used for collusion checks against those from Institution B.
  • When Content Access is set to restricted, other institutions using Inspera Originality are restricted from accessing the internal repository of archived submissions for student-collusion checking. Consequently, archived submissions from Institution A cannot be used for collusion checks against those from Institution B.
  • When Content Access is set to open, access to the internal repository of archived submissions or student-collusion checking is automatically granted. As a result, archived submissions from institution A can be used for collusion check against those from institution B and vice versa.
Personal Identifiable Information (PII)

Define whether or not specific personal information, such as names, emails, and more, should be excluded from received submissions and concealed in Originality Reports.

The following options are available for exclusion:

  • Person (first name, last name, full name)
  • Email addresses
  • IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6)
  • Geolocation (Country, city, street names, ZIP codes)
  • Credit card numbers
  • International Bank Account Numbers (IBAN)
  • National ID numbers (e.g., passport, driver’s license)
  • US Social Security Numbers (SSNs)
  • Dates and timestamps (e.g., date of birth)
  • URLs (web addresses)
  • Medical license numbers
