Action Menus: Settings & Preferences

Administrator - Settings & Preferences Menu

The Settings & Preferences menu allows educators to manage the system-wide availability and configuration of features. The menu divides the features into two categories:

  • Originality Feature Configuration
  • Access & Permission Settings

1. Originality Feature Configuration

Note: The features in this category, whether enabled or disabled, apply at the assignment level. If a feature is enabled, it will appear as an option during assignment configuration, but if disabled, it will not be visible.

• Translation Similarity

Administrators can choose up to 3 languages for the translation similarity analysis. The selected languages will become the default languages for this setting across the platform. However, users, namely Educators, can change the selected languages during the assignment configuration process.

• Enable AI Prediction

Enabling this option includes the AI Authorship analysis in the Originality report. The AI Authorship analysis presents key information on AI prediction findings and provides classifications based on the predicted level of AI-generated content.

• Contextual Similarity

Enabling this option includes the contextual similarity analysis in the Originality Report. This comparative analysis examines how closely two sentences match in the message and overall context. Additionally, the analysis takes into account other elements such as sentence similarity and word proximity.

• Enable Thresholds

Administrators can set a percentage threshold for in-document classifications provided by Inspera Originality, including Exact Match and Possibly Altered Text. Thresholds define the percentage at which these classifications take place and flag sentences in the submitted document accordingly. Each classification comes with a preconfigured threshold; however, educators can adjust it during the assignment configuration process.

Note: The Exact Match and Possibly Altered Text classifications use a shared slider interface because they are interconnected. Adjusting the maximum percentage for Possibly Altered Text will automatically adjust the minimum percentage for Exact Match. The minimum percentage for Possibly Altered Text can be adjusted independently without affecting Exact Match.

2. Access & Permission Settings

Note: The features in this category, whether enabled or disabled, take place in different areas of the system. If a feature is enabled it will become available system-wide where applicable, but if disabled, it will not be visible.

• Educator User Management Permissions

Administrators can manage the permissions that educators have on the platform regarding the creation and addition of new student users.

• Submission Pre-Check

Enabling this setting provides student users with the option to pre-check their documents before submission. This feature promotes academic integrity by encouraging users to review their work for potential issues in advance, thereby supporting the maintenance of high standards.

• Archive Submissions

Administrators can enable this setting to allow educators to archive student submissions. These archived submissions are used to create a dedicated repository for future reference, helping to detect potential student collusion within the institution.

• Content Access

Defines if and how the content of the archive submission repository is accessible by other institutions using Inspera Originality, including options such as restricted, open, and closed.

  • Open indicates that the archive repository of your institution is accessible to other institutions
  • Closed indicates that the archive repository of your institution is not accessible to other institutions
  • Restricted indicates that the archive repository of your institution is accessible to other institutions upon request.

• Personal Identifiable Information (PII)

Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is a feature in Inspera Originality that protects confidential information and prohibits the storage of sensitive data within the system. This feature allows administrators to specify certain types of personal information that should not be stored from received submissions.
