Prerequisites
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
1. QR Reader App: Ensure your phone has a QR reader app installed.
2. Mobile Holder/Designated Space: Have a stable place to position your phone so that it remains steady during the test.
3. Power Source: Connect your phone to a power source to avoid battery drain during the exam.
4. Web Browser: Install the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox.
Setting Up the Secondary Camera
1. Positioning:
- The proctoring software will use your front-facing ‘selfie’ camera
- Place your phone in a way that it captures your face, profile view, and your laptop/desktop screen.
- Ensure the camera is in landscape mode for a wider view
- Make sure there is enough light in the room, and there are no obstacles blocking the camera's view.
2. Stability:
- Secure the phone so it remains steady throughout the test
- Disable the auto-lock feature on your phone to prevent interruptions
See this article on ‘How to Take a Proctored Test’ for a step-by-step guide.
During the Exam
Do Not Obstruct the Camera:
- The secondary camera must be operational and unobstructed at all times. Any interference could be considered a violation of exam rules.
Disconnection:
- If the secondary camera disconnects, your primary device's screen will display a notification
- Follow the instructions provided to reconnect, usually by rescanning the QR code with your phone. Once reconnected, you can resume the exam
Troubleshooting Camera Issues
If you encounter issues with the secondary camera check the camera permissions on your phone:
- The issue might be due to camera permissions not being granted.
- To fix this, go to your phone's settings and ensure that the browser (e.g., Google Chrome) has permission to use the camera
By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth setup and operation of your secondary camera, helping to maintain the integrity of your test.
