This article is for candidates.
This article provides additional information for setting up a secondary camera on your mobile phone for proctoring during your test. The dual-camera setup utilises both your mobile phone and your laptop/desktop's built-in camera to ensure the integrity of the test process.
For a full overview of how to take a proctored test, including setting up a secondary camera, see the article "Taking a proctored test: Onboarding steps at test start."
Prerequisites
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
- QR reader App: Ensure your phone has a QR reader app installed.
- Mobile holder/designated space: Have a stable place to position your phone so that it remains steady during the test.
- Power source: Connect your phone to a power source to avoid battery drain during the exam.
- Web browser: Install the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox.
Setting up the secondary camera
Positioning:
- The proctoring software will use your front-facing "selfie" camera.
- Place your phone in a way that it captures your face in profile view, and your laptop/desktop screen.
- Ensure the camera is in landscape mode for a wider view.
- Make sure there is enough light in the room.
- Make sure there are no obstacles blocking the camera's view.
Stability:
- Secure the phone so it remains steady throughout the test.
- Disable the auto-lock feature on your phone to prevent interruptions.
During the test
Do not obstruct the camera: The secondary camera must be operational and unobstructed at all times. Any interference could be considered a violation of exam rules.
Disconnection:
- If the secondary camera disconnects, your primary device's screen will display a notification.
- Follow the instructions provided to reconnect, usually by rescanning the QR code with your phone.
- Once reconnected, you can resume the exam.
Troubleshooting camera issues
If you encounter issues with the secondary camera check the camera permissions on your phone.
- The issue might be due to camera permissions not being granted.
- To fix this, go to your phone settings.
- Ensure that the browser (e.g., Google Chrome) has permission to use the camera.
By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth setup and operation of your secondary camera, helping to maintain the integrity of your test.
