Understanding the Originality Report
The Originality Report features a series of buttons designed for executing specific actions or accessing further details.
Depending on where the Originality Report is being accessed from, additional buttons are added.

Understanding Button Functions
The upper section of the Originality Report includes a set of buttons to complete specific actions or obtain additional information.
Details
Click on this button reveals information specific to the Originality Report in question, including:
- Title - The title of the document
- Document language - The language of the document
- Translated language/s - The selected languages for the Original Similarity analysis (up to 3 maximum)
- AI authorship analysis - Indicates whether the AI Authorship Analysis has been enabled for the document
- Manipulations analysis - Indicates whether the Manipulation Analysis has been enabled for the document
- File size - Displays the document file size
- Word count - Displays the document word count
- Page count - Displays the document page count
Download
Clicking the Download button will reveal the download options for the Originality Report.
- Offline Report - Provides users with an offline version of the Originality Report, including all of the same information.
- Document File - Provides users with a PDF download of the document upload file.
Settings
The Settings button displays information related to deletion and permission options. Note that the options displayed for this button change depending on the user.
Administrator
Clicking the Settings button reveals the following options for administrators:
- Give student permission to delete this document from the archive - Choosing this option allows students to remove the document from the archive and exclude it from future collusion checks. However, the Originality Report will still be available on the platform.
- Give student permission to delete this document from the repository - Choosing this option allows students to permanently delete the document from our repository and exclude it from future collusion checks. Additionally, the originality report associated with the document will be removed from the platform
- Delete document - Choosing this option will remove the document entirely from the platform.
Educator
Educators have two separate sets of options when they click the Settings button. The first set is displayed when clicking the Settings button within student submissions, and the second set is available when clicking the Settings button for personal submissions, which can be accessed through the "Your Submissions" page.
For Personal Submissions
- Delete your document from the archive - Choosing this option will remove the document from the archive and exclude it from future collusion checks (if the archive option was selected beforehand). However, the Originality Report will still be available on the platform.
- Delete your document from the repository - Choosing this option will permanently delete the document from our repository and exclude it from future collusion checks. Additionally, the originality report associated with the document will be removed from the platform.
For Student Submissions
- Give student permission to delete document in our archives - Choosing this option allows students to remove the document from the archive and exclude it from future collusion checks. However, the Originality Report will still be available on the platform.
- Give student permission to delete this document from the repository - Choosing this option allows students to permanently delete the document from our repository and exclude it from future collusion checks. Additionally, the originality report associated with the document will be removed from the platform
Student
Clicking the Settings button as a student reveals the following options:
- Delete this document from the archive - Choosing this option will remove the document from the archive and exclude it from future collusion checks. However, the Originality Report will still be available on the platform.
- Delete this document from the repository - Choosing this option will permanently delete the document from our repository and exclude it from future collusion checks. Additionally, the originality report associated with the document will be removed from the platform
Help Center
Clicking the Help Center button takes users to the dedicated Help Center pages for Inspera Originality. Here, users can find comprehensive documentation on all aspects of Inspera Originality, including user guides, integration details, product explanations, and more.
Expand View
In the LMS integration, the Originality Report features an additional button: the Expand View button. Clicking this button opens the Originality Report in a larger, expanded view in a new tab.
The Originality Report summary view provides holistic information to users, presenting the document text and sentence highlights on the left side and the analysis information on the right. Users are shown a summary of the similarity analyses, AI authorship, and manipulation.
Originality Index
The Originality Index is a classification system that evaluates a document through multiple originality checks once submitted. The index considers the level of similarity for both original and translated language similarity and any result from the AI authorship analysis if the feature is activated.
High Risk
Indicates that the document contains significant originality issues, including AI-generated content and manipulations.
Medium Risk
Indicates that the document contains moderate originality issues and may contain parts written by AI and manipulations.
Low Risk
Indicates that the document is likely original with no significant originality issues.
Canvas Information
The document text is displayed on the left side of the Originality Report. In Summary View, highlighted text appears in red to clearly mark flagged sentences.
Additionally, flagged sentences include icons that represent the number of analyses for them.
Analysis Information
The right side of the report displays analysis information. Users can view general details for similarity analysis, AI authorship analysis, and text manipulation analysis. Additionally, users can access various functionalities for each type of analysis from this section.
Side Menu
The side menu is located next to the analyses section and includes buttons that redirect users to the in-depth view of each analysis.
Similarity Analysis
In summary view, the similarity analysis displays essential information on findings for both Original and Translated language similarity.
Original Language Similarity
- Users can view the Original Language, the number of matching sources, and the similarity index displayed as a percentage.
- Click the Show Sources button to display the top 5 matching sources. To exclude a source, from the top 5 matching sources, simply click the X button.
- Click the three-dot icon to apply filtering capabilities between sources. The available filtering options include:
- Show all sources
- Show document sources
- Show internet sources
- Show removed sources
- Show sources below 1%
Translated Language Similarity
- Users can view the Translated Languages, the number of matching sources, and the similarity index displayed as a percentage.
- Click the Show Sources button to display the top 5 matching sources. To exclude a source, from the top 5 matching sources, simply click the X button.
- Click the three-dot icon to apply filtering capabilities between sources. The available filtering options include:
- Show all sources
- Show document sources
- Show internet sources
- Show removed sources
- Show sources below 1%
AI Authorship
The AI Authorship analysis displays essential information on AI prediction findings, such as the number of AI and human written sentences. Based on the predicted level of AI-generated content, the AI Authorship analysis provides classifications, including high probability, medium probability, and low probability.
Manipulations
The manipulations analysis provides information on text manipulation findings, displaying:
- The count for Character replacements
- The count for Hidden text
- The count for images in place of text
- Click the Show More button to display the top manipulation flags. To exclude a flag, from the top manipulation flags, simply click the X button.
- Click on the three-dot icon to apply filtering capabilities between manipulations. The available filtering options are:
- Show only character replacements
- Show only hidden text
- Show only images in place of text
- Show excluded characters
- Show excluded hidden text
- Show excluded images in place of text
- Show green flags for images in place of text
- Show red flags for images in place of text
Users can click highlighted sentences in the Originality Report summary view to obtain detailed sentence information and a thorough overview of each originality check for a given sentence. Icons next to highlighted sentences represent the originality checks. Clicking an icon reveals the analyses a sentence was flagged for.
Original Language
Clicking on a highlighted sentence that has been flagged for Original Language displays:
- Matching Source - provides a link to access the matching source
- Matching Sentence - displays the matched sentence in the document
- Classification - provides a classification based on the detected sentence similarity
- Sentence Similarity - displays the level of sentence similarity as a percentage
- Contextual Similarity - displayed the level of contextual similarity between the two sentences (sentence from document & sentence from matching source) as a percentage.
- Proximity - indicates the average distance of similar words between two similar sentences
To exclude the sentence, simply click the Exclude Matching Sentence button.
To change the source for the sentence, click the change source button.
Translated Language
Multiple language findings for a sentence are ranked according to how similar the sentence is to each matching source in every language.
Clicking on a highlighted sentence flagged for Translated Language displays:
- Translated Sentence - displays the translated sentence from the matching sources
- Matching Source - provides a link to access the matching source
- Matching Sentence - displays the matched sentence in the document
- Classification - provides a classification based on the detected sentence similarity
- Sentence Similarity - displays the level of sentence similarity as a percentage
- Contextual Similarity - displayed the level of contextual similarity between the two sentences (sentence from document & sentence from matching source) as a percentage.
- Proximity - related to context similarity and provides the average proximity of word allocation between the two sentences. (sentence from document & sentence from matching source).
To simultaneously exclude the sentence for all languages, simply click the "Exclude All" button.
To change the source for the sentence, simply click the Change source button.
AI Authorship
Clicking on a sentence flagged for AI authorship will reveal the classification for the sentence based on the predicted level of potential AI-generated content. Inspera Originality provides the following AI authorship classifications for sentences:
- High Probability
- Medium Probability
- Low Probability
Manipulations
Clicking on a highlighted sentence flagged for manipulation reveals the techniques used, namely Character Replacement and Hidden Text. Location-specific highlights show where each manipulation occurs within the sentence. Users can switch between these techniques and perform exclude/include actions as needed.
- To exclude Character replacements, simply click the Exclude Characters button. To reinclude Character replacements, simply click the Include Characters button.
- To exclude Hidden text, simply click the Exclude Hidden text button. To reinclude Hidden text, simply click the Include Hidden text button
Each originality check includes an in-depth analysis view providing users with additional granularity and information specific to each originality assessment. The in-depth analysis view provides information on document-wide and sentence-level findings for a given originality analysis.
To access the in-depth view for any analysis, simply click the arrow button, or the respective analysis icons located next to the originality analyses section.
Similarity Analysis In-Depth
Original Language In-Depth
At the document level, the in-depth view of the Original Language Similarity Analysis supplies links to matching sources for all findings in the original language. Each source is given an index number for easy identification in the Originality Report and is ranked by similarity percentage.
Users can perform exclude/include actions for each matching source, which will adjust the order of the matching sources and change the overall similarity percentage for the original language.
Users can also filter between matching sources at the document level to only display a specific source group. Exclude and include capabilities are available for each source within these groups.
Access In-depth Sentence Information
At the sentence level for original language similarity, Inspera Originality provides detailed information for a given sentence, showing:
- Matching Source - provides a link to access the matching source
- Matching Sentence - displays the matched sentence in the document
- Classification - provides a classification based on the detected sentence similarity
- Sentence Similarity - displays the level of sentence similarity as a percentage
- Contextual Similarity - displayed the level of contextual similarity between the two sentences (sentence from document & sentence from matching source) as a percentage.
- Proximity - related to context similarity and provides the average word proximity between the two sentences. (sentence from document & sentence from matching source).
To exclude the sentence, click the Exclude Matching Sentence button
To change the source for the sentence, click the Change Source button
Translated Language In-Depth
At the document level, the in-depth view of the Translated Language Similarity Analysis supplies links to matching sources for all translation findings in each language included in the analysis (up to 3 maximum). Languages are ranked according to their comprehensive similarity percentage. For each language, sources are given an index number for easy identification in the Originality Report and ranked by similarity percentage.
(Applies to all languages included in the analysis) Excluding or including matching sources will rearrange the matching source list and change the comprehensive similarity percentage for the language. This change can affect the language’s position in the overall language list.
Users can also filter between matching sources at the document level to only display a specific source group. Exclude and include capabilities are available for each source within these groups.
Access In-depth Sentence Information
At the sentence level for translated language similarity, Inspera Originality provides detailed information for a given sentence. Clicking on a highlighted sentence displays:
- Translated Sentence - displays the translated sentence from the matching sources
- Matching Source - provides a link to access the matching source
- Matching Sentence - displays the matched sentence in the document
- Classification - provides a classification based on the detected sentence similarity
- Sentence Similarity - displays the level of sentence similarity as a percentage
- Contextual Similarity - displayed the level of contextual similarity between the two sentences (sentence from document & sentence from matching source) as a percentage.
- Proximity - related to context similarity and provides the average word proximity between the two sentences. (sentence from document & sentence from matching source).
To exclude the sentence from translation similarity, click the Exclude matching sentence button.
To change the source the for sentence, click the Change source button.
AI Authorship In-Depth
The in-depth view of the AI Authorship analysis offers detailed information, including:
- The AI Authorship index
- The total number of sentences
- The total number of AI-written sentences
- The total number of human-written sentence
Based on the estimated level of AI-generated content, the analysis provides a classification of the likelihood of AI authorship which can be
- High probability
- Medium probability
- Low probability
Manipulations In-Depth
The in-depth view of the manipulation analysis provides essential information on manipulation findings, displaying the total count of manipulation flags, and the specific counts for each respective manipulation technique. Within the in-depth view of the manipulation analysis, users can perform exclude/include actions for each manipulation technique and their respective flags.
Character Replacement
Character replacement refers to the action of replacing certain characters in a document with characters from another alphabet. Users can perform exclude/include actions for all detected character replacements.
Hidden Text
Hidden text refers to the action of concealing additional text or symbols within a document. This is achieved by adding text or symbols in document whitespaces and making adjustments to sizing and coloring.
Images in Place of Text
This is where a snapshot of a text is included in a document and camouflaged as regular text in between paragraphs. Such problematic images are highlighted in red, whereas regular images are highlighted in green for clarity.
Cohort Analysis In-Depth
Cohort analysis offers an in-depth assessment of originality by thoroughly reviewing every component of the originality-checking process. This method enables users to evaluate a current submission against others within the same assignment, focusing on five critical areas:
- Original Language Similarity
- Translated Language Similarity
- Manipulations
- AI Authorship
- Word Count
To access the cohort analysis, click the cohort analysis side menu button next to the originality analyses.
