Introduction

Inspera Originality offers a range of institutional settings that, when enabled, become available across the institution. Settings at this level enable across-the-board customization for institutions, allowing them to tailor their approach to assessing submissions as opposed to using a one-size-fits-all solution.

Understanding Institutional Settings

Originality Feature Configuration

Note: Institutional settings control the functionalities available in the tool, while educators decide whether to include these features when configuring assignments.

  • Translation similarity - Administrators can choose up to 3 languages for the translation similarity analysis. The selected languages will become the default languages for this setting across the platform. However, users, namely Educators, can change the selected languages during the assignment configuration process.
  • AI Prediction - Enabling this option includes the AI Authorship analysis in the Originality report. The AI Authorship analysis presents key information on AI prediction findings and provides classifications based on the predicted level of AI-generated content.
  • Archive Submissions - Administrators can enable this setting to allow educators to archive student submissions. These archived submissions are used to create a dedicated repository for future reference, helping to detect potential student collusion within the institution.
  • Contextual similarity Threshold - Enabling this option includes the contextual similarity analysis in the Originality Report. This comparative analysis examines how closely two sentences match in the message and overall context. Additionally, the analysis takes into account other elements such as sentence similarity and word proximity. Administrators can configure the threshold percentage for contextual similarity, which defaults to 50% to prevent broad matches and ensure accuracy. The threshold ranges from the set percentage to 100%, flagging any value within that range.
  • Enable Thresholds - Enabling this option allows administrators to configure the thresholds for the Exact Match and Possibly Altered Text classifications. Note that adjusting the maximum percentage for Possibly Altered Text will automatically adjust the minimum percentage for Exact Match. The minimum percentage for Possibly Altered Text can be adjusted independently without affecting Exact Match.
Note: Preconfigured threshold percentages are recommended, as they have been thoroughly assessed and rigorously tested to ensure accuracy in identifying Exact Match, Possibly Altered Text, and Contextual Similarity.

Access & Permission Settings

  • Submission pre-check - Enabling this setting provides student users with the option to pre-check their documents before submission. This feature promotes academic integrity by encouraging users to review their work for potential issues in advance, thereby supporting the maintenance of high standards.
  • Educator User Management Permissions - Administrators can manage the permissions that educators have on the platform regarding the creation and addition of new student users.
  • Content Access - Defines if and how the content of the archive submission repository is accessible by other institutions using Inspera Originality, including options such as restricted, open, and closed.
    • Open indicates that the archive repository of your institution is accessible to other institutions
    • Closed indicates that the archive repository of your institution is not accessible to other institutions
    • Restricted indicates that the archive repository of your institution is accessible to other institutions upon request.

  • Personal Identifiable Information (PII) - Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is a feature in Inspera Originality that protects confidential information and prohibits the storage of sensitive data within the system. This feature allows administrators to specify certain types of personal information that should not be stored from received submissions.
